Aishwarya Rai's wedding stylist, Neeta Lulla revealed that she discussed about her wedding outfit while dressed as a bride in the film, 'Jodhaa Akbar'.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan’s wedding in 2007 was one of the highly-buzzed events back in the year. The duo, who had already grabbed eyeballs with their unmissable chemistry, tied the knot according to Aishwarya’s hereditary Tulu traditions. From décor, wedding venue, outfits to all the glitz and glam, everything about their special days still continues to create magic today. And recently, Aishwarya’s then-wedding stylist, Neeta Lulla revealed some special anecdotes about the actress’ gorgeous wedding ensemble.
Aishwarya Rai had stunned everyone with her stunning pick of a royal Kanjeevaram saree for her wedding with Abhishek Bachchan. Moreover, she had decked up all the more gorgeously by opting for exquisite gold temple jewellery, that added stars to her overall look. And now, Aishwarya’s wedding stylist, Neeta Lulla revealed what exactly went behind in creating such a masterpiece outfit for the former Miss World’s wedding. She highlighted how the then excited bride-to-be, Aishwarya had started planning her outfit way ahead, and interestingly, discussed about it while shooting the wedding sequence of her film, Jodhaa Akbar. In her words:
“When we were discussing her wedding outfit, she was dressed in her Jodhaa wedding outfit. I remember her saying I’m not dressing like this for my wedding. I want to dress in a kanjeevaram so you have to figure what has to be done for that. Speak to my mother and you guys do your recce as to where you want to get it woven and what you want to do.”

Further in the interview, Neeta Lulla recalled how Aishwarya Rai was very particular about her wedding look. While dressed in the character of ‘Jodha’, she specifically mentioned that she did not want something similar, but instead an outfit that would glorify the cultures and traditions of her Tulu roots. Adding more details about the style of saree and blouse that was finally decided upon, Neeta said:
“Because she’s a south Indian, she’s a Tulu, she wanted that culture too. Her cultural upbringing, her cultural values and everything to exude in her look and her style statement and that’s exactly what we did. We got the saree especially woven for her and the blouse was also very basic 5-inch sleeve blouse like a lot of south Indians wear.”
Apart from all the majestic arrangements made for Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan’s wedding, it was surely the eye-candy outfits designed for the couple that had caught a lot of attention. In fact, Aishwarya’s bridal look was indeed one of the most expensive wedding looks ever created in India. Well, her choice of golden-hued Kanjeevaram saree had real gold-threadwork embroidery on it, and was laden with expensive crystals. Her saree was approximately priced at Rs. 75 Lakhs. On the other hand, Abhishek had complemented his then-bride in a white-hued sherwani, which also featured gold work on it.

On their wedding day, Abhishek Bachchan had gifted his wifey, Aishwarya a beautiful solitaire diamond ring, as well as an exquisite, all-diamond studded mangalsutra. The latter featured two double strings, completed by a dainty diamond pendant at the end. Reportedly, it cost around Rs. 45 Lakhs. However, after a few years of their marriage, specifically after the birth of their daughter, Aaradhya, Aishwarya had ended up modifying the mangalsutra to suit her needs as a new mommy. Reportedly, she did not want to wear a heavy mangalsutra and had not only reduced it to just a single string but also shortened it in length.
