Once in an interview with Deepak Chaurasia, Neetu Kapoor opened up about the reason why she stopped acting in films after marriage, and she gave huge credit to Rishi Kapoor for it.
The iconic actress, Neetu Kapoor was one of the leading actresses of her time, and there was a phase when she was everyone’s ‘number 1 heroine’. However, despite such an impressive career in Hindi cinema, the actress shocked everyone when she announced that she would leave acting after her marriage to megastar, Rishi Kapoor.
However, people from the film fraternity weren’t surprised to see Neetu Kapoor bidding farewell to an illustrious career which every actor used to dream of. Writings were on the walls, as before Neetu, the industry had already seen the daughters-in-law of the Kapoor family opting for household duties and quitting their work. Thus, everyone was convinced that Neetu would also follow in their footsteps, which was what eventually happened.

For the unversed, Neetu Kapoor got married to the love of her life, Rishi Kapoor, in a lavish wedding back in 1980. After which, she bid farewell to the Indian cinema. The actress was reportedly last seen in the film, Ganga Meri Maa (1983), and after a gap of 26 long years, she made her comeback with the film, Love Aaj Kal (2009) opposite her husband, Rishi Kapoor.

Over the years, time and again, the actress has been asked to reveal the reason behind her decision to leave acting when she was at the highest point of her career. Once in a joint interview with famous news anchor, Deepak Chaurasia, Neetu Kapoor talked about her decision to leave acting after marriage while her husband, Rishi Kapoor was sitting alongside her. While talking about her decision, Neetu admitted that she had left acting without any regrets and added that she had achieved all the fame and success in her career, which was the reason she never looked back. She said:
"Mujhe itna fame milgya tha, itni movies kar li thi. Mere paas vo desire nahin tha. I wanted to give it up. Maine khushi-khushi se liya (decision), ye nahin ki jabrdasti chodda ki kyuki mujhe shadi karni thi. Maine ache se khushi se sabki movies complete ki. Sabko boldia main ek saal mein shadi kar rahi hoon. So it was done in a very nice way. Aur kabhi nahin laga ki I should’ve gone there. Maybe credit goes to him (Rishi Kapoor) because he kept me very happy."

For the uninitiated, it was on April 30, 2020, when Rishi Kapoor passed away due to leukaemia. The industry was devastated by the sudden demise of an iconic actor like him, whose contribution to Indian cinema is unparalleled. Earlier this year, on January 22, 2023, Neetu Kapoor remembered her darling husband on the special occasion of their 43rd wedding anniversary. Despite all the pain in her heart, the doting wife shared a memorable picture with him and penned a one-line note for him in the caption, and it could be read as:
"Time fliessss.....Only memories....."
