Neetu Kapoor's comment about daughters-in-law breaking families like a scissor, was inspired by her mother-in-law, Krishna Kapoor's ideology.
Neetu Kapoor has been one of the most fabulous actresses of her generation in Indian cinema, and there can be no second thoughts to it. While she started off her career in films at quite an early age, however, she had to quit it the minute she got married to Rishi Kapoor in 1980, since she became the bahu of the prestigious Kapoor clan. After ending her professional career, Neetu became completely immersed in the duties of a doting wife, mother and daughter-in-law in such a great family.
During an old episode of Simi Garewal’s show, Simi Selects India's Most Desirable, Ranbir Kapoor had joined in and discussed the kind of woman he would want in his life. Moreover, his doting mommy, Neetu Kapoor had also been showcased through a pre-recorded video, wherein she talked about the kind of girl she would want her son to marry. Neetu remarked that there exist two kinds of girls — one who comes with scissors and breaks a family, whereas another who comes with needles and mends a family. Citing her preference for a bahu who falls in the second category, the actress had said:
“There are two kinds of girls, one who comes with scissors, and one who comes with needle. Scissors is the one who breaks the family or jo needle ke sath aati hai that kind off mends the family together, makes sure the family stays together. And that's the girl I would like."

Taking to the discussion portal, Reddit, an internet user shared a screengrab of Amitabh Bachchan’s blog account, where the actor recollected his interactions and rendezvous with the Kapoor matriarch, Krishna Kapoor. At a point in his revelation, Big B heaped praises on the lady’s grace and poise within such a big family and even narrated an advice Krishna Kapoor always gave to the new bahus who were married in her family. Quoting her, Amitabh Bachchan had revealed:
“… her famous line to brides to be: when you shall go as a bride in your husband’s home, you must decide whether you want to carry scissors with you or a pair of knitting needles! Scissors symbolising the cutting of relations in the new home and family; knitting needles, to knit the family together.”
Well, surely Neetu Kapoor’s perspective on the daughters-in-law of the family being a binding force and not a separating force was inspired by her own mother-in-law, Krishna Kapoor, who singlehandedly had kept the large Kapoor family united against everything. Taking to the comment section of the post, eagle-eyed netizens expressed their views on the same. While some netizens ridiculed such a perspective, others even took a dig at Alia Bhatt, who is the next generation daughter-in-law in the Kapoor family after Neetu herself. One internet user commented, “If i don’t see Alia 30 years from now talking about scissors and rishtas i’ll be v disappointed”, another netizen penned, “Then I think Neetu massively misinterpreted her ideology.”
