Godrej Group is hands down one of the biggest and most-recognised conglomerates in India. It was founded back in 1897 by a lawyer-turned-businessman named Ardeshir Godrej and his brother, Pirojsha Burjorji Godrej. The brothers started making door locks after cases of theft started increasing tremendously across the nation. They surpassed the quality of British locks and became a hit across India. Decades passed, and after more than 127 years, Godrej Group is reportedly worth Rs. 1.76 lakh crores.
However, today, we are going to talk about the future of Godrej Group, which lies in the hands of the Godrej family's third and fourth generation. The fourth generation of the Godrej family comprises three men, a woman, and their respective children. Adi Godrej's children, Nisaba Godrej and Pirojsha Godrej, Nadir Godrej's children, Burjis Godrej, Sohrab Godrej, and Hormusji Godrej, Jamshyd Godrej's kids, Raika Godrej and Navroze Godrej, and Smita Godrej's children, Freyan Godrej and Nyrika Godrej.
Out of all these names, Adi Godrej's daughter, Nisaba Godrej is the one, who has been hitting the headlines every now and then. She was born in 1978 to her parents, Adi Godrej and Parmeshwar Godrej. Apart from serving as the executive chairperson of Godrej Consumer Products Limited, Nisaba is also the independent director of Mahindra and Mahindra. Not only this, Nisaba was also the independent director of VIP Industries, a position that she left in June 2024. At the moment, she is playing a vital role in leading Rs. 42,500 crore-revenue conglomerates, Godrej Group.
Currently, Nisaba Godrej is one of the most influential and recognised businesswomen in India. The fact that she has succeeded her father, Adi Godrej and has been instrumental in the conglomerate's massive growth in recent years is a statement of her vision and business acumen. Talking about her educational qualification, she completed her schooling from The Cathedral and John Connon School and Stowe School. For graduation, Nisaba headed to the US and took admission to The Wharton School and pursued a Bachelor's degree in Science. After this, she went to Havard Business School, where she completed a Master's degree in Business Administration.
Nisaba Godrej started her journey with Godrej Group in 2000, when she joined Godrej Sara Lee as an Assistant Brand Manager. She also worked as an HR there for some time before being appointed to the board of Godrej Agrovet in 2008. After building a reputation in the company with her consistent hard work, she was promoted to the position of Executive Chairperson of Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL) in 2017. In 2020, Nisaba became the Managing Director of GCPL.
According to a Forbes report, when Nisaba Godrej became the Executive Chairperson of Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL) in 2007, the company saw a massive surge in profits. It wasn't a normal spike but a massive one, as GCPL registered a stupendous jump from 221 million USD to 1.5 billion USD. The company's market capitalisation also rose from 700 million USD to 12 billion USD.
One of the many extraordinary things that Nisaba Godrej has done since joining the GCPL is the Rs. 2,825 crore deal she cracked with Raymond. It was a masterstroke by Nisaba to purchase Kama Sutra and Park Avenue's grooming items, which became a massive hit across India.
Nisaba Godrej is married to Kalpesh Mehta, who is the founder of Tribeca Developers. The couple got married back in 2013 and are parents to two kids, Zoran Mehta and Aidan Mehta. The family of four lives in Mumbai and prefers to lead a life away from the spotlight.
