When Nita Ambani had become a traditional Gujarati bride and had donned a 'panetar' saree with a 'gharchola', paying respect to her and her husband's family's rituals.
Mukesh Ambani and his family are famously known for their rich lifestyle. While the Ambanis belong to the rich class, his wife, Nita Ambani, earlier Nita Dalal, belonged to a middle-class family. Nita’s father, Ravindrabhai Dalal was the senior executive of the Birla group. Mukesh Ambani’s mother, Kokilaben Ambani had seen Nita at an event and had decided to make the former teacher, her daughter-in-law, and that’s how an incredible love story of a lifetime had begun.
Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani had got married in the year 1985 when she was just 20 years old. Together, they have built a happy nest for themselves with their three children, Isha Ambani, Akash Ambani and Anant Ambani. While Nita had embraced motherhood for the first time with her twins, Isha and Akash, through IVF, three years later, she had given birth to their youngest son, Anant.

Over the years, we have seen that despite the riches, the Ambani family ardently follows their rituals and traditions. While the brides these days prefer to go all modern with their style statement, Nita Ambani had decided to take the traditional route on her wedding with Mukesh Ambani. For her wedding, Nita had donned a traditional garment that had comprised of two sarees, draped together as one. Nita had worn a panetar saree paying respect to her family and had added a gharchola respecting her husband’s family. On her IG handle, a museum professional, Deepthi Sasidharan, explained the importance of panetar and gharchola worn by Nita Ambani on her wedding and wrote:
“The traditional garment comprises typically of two saris, miraculously draped together as a composite whole. The white/ivory ‘panetar’ silk sari with a traditional red/maroon border from the brides home and a fully red and gold gorgeous sari, the ‘gharchola’ from the grooms home. Both versions have the tie-and-die bandhini work aplenty. It’s a poignant name - ghar/home chola/cape to welcome the new bride and signify her union with her marital home. In older wedding ceremonies that lasted a whole day, the bride would wear one sari and then change to other. Then it became symbolic when the gharchola is symbolically draped over the head.”
Not just Nita Ambani, her daughter, Isha Ambani had also added their Gujarati traditions to her wedding look. It was on December 12, 2018, when Isha had got married to Anand Piramal. The billionaire heiress had looked up to celebrity designer duo, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla for her wedding ensemble. While she had rocked in the ivory lehenga, Isha had beautifully included her mother, Nita Ambani's wedding saree as a major part of her wedding attire. Isha had worn her mother, Nita's 36-year-old wedding saree, as her dupatta with her main ivory wedding ensemble.
