The music industry is mourning the death of Irish singer Sinead O'Connor, and celebrities and fans are acclaiming 'rest in power'.
Irish singer Sinead O’Connor, who rose to fame with her musical single, Nothing Compares 2 u died at 56. The news of her death was reported to RTE by her family members. The reason for the demise is not yet been disclosed. However, the singer was suffering from trauma and several other medical conditions. Irish Prime Minister, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar expressed his grief on the sudden demise of the singer and said:
"(Her music) Was loved around the world and her talent was unmatched”.
O’Connor’s family released a statement to the Irish broadcaster, RTE stating that the singer has passed away and they would like privacy at this difficult time. Following the announcement, other celebrities and her fans took to Twitter to express their grief and condolence to her family. Her family’s statement stated:
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinead. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”

Sinead was a very vocal personality and often shared her political and social views. The Irish President, Micheal D. Higgins also took to Twitter and issued an official statement on Sinead O’Connor’s death. He fondly remembered the singer’s beautiful and unique voice and praised her commitment to important issues. He further wrote:
“What Ireland has lost at such a relatively young age is one of our greatest and most gifted composers, songwriters and performers of recent decades, one who had a unique talent and extraordinary connection with her audience, all of whom held such love and warmth for her,"
Sinead started her musical career quite early on in her life. She had a clear and sharp voice along with excellent sign-writing abilities. Her music expressed her views on politics, society, spirituality and more. At mere 21 years of age, Sinead released her first album, The Lion and the Cobra, and it was an instant hit and even entered the top 40 in the UK and US. What acclaimed Sinead as an iconic singer was her 1990 album, I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got. In this very album, she had the song, Nothing Compares 2 U, a smashing hit and a number 1 in both US and UK.

Where the reason for the singer’s death is unknown, people were well aware of her health battles. Sinead appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s show in 2007, revealing her suffering from bipolar disorder. She was also under continuous treatment for the same. In 2021, The New York Times reported that Sinead was diagnosed with complex post-traumatic stress disorder and borderline personality disorder. In 2015, it was also reported by Sinead herself that she was suffering from gallstones and endometriosis. Her physical ailments adversely affected her mental health, and she was even suicidal.
