Ali Zafar recently graced Ahmed Ali Butt’s podcast, Excuse Me, and he opened up about a lot of unheard details about his personal and professional life. The 43-year-old was asked by the host to shed light upon the rivalry between him and the legendary Pakistani singer, Atif Aslam. Ahmed asked if the singer has ever hung out with Atif. To this, Ali said:
“We used to, ab dono ki ek zindagi hai, ek career hai. I have always believed that artist hokar hum logo ko ek dusre ke saath saanjhe mil baith ke kaam karna chahiye, guftgu karni chahiye. Ye jo competitive environment hai, ye nahi honi chahiye, koi insecurities nahi honi chahiye dil mein. Eventually aaj Ali Zafar hai, kal koi aur hoga, aaj Atif Aslam hai kal koi aur hoga.”
Further into the conversation, Ali reflected on the issue of rivalry and said that there used to be animosity in the past, but eventually, the two artists, later in their lives, understood what they lost during the feud. The singer further divulged that Atif loves to be in his own world. He added:
“Har kisi ko zindagi dekhne ka ek alag tareeka hota hai, and I respect that. Mere muhn se apne Atif ke bare mein hamesha tareef hi suni hogi, chahe usne kabhi ki ho ya na, mujhe nahi pata. I always wish him the best and I think wo hamare mulk ka ek asset hai.”

In an earlier episode of the same podcast, Ali Zafar also shared details about his acting stint in Indian movies. He recalled seeing big posters of Bollywood biggies like John Abraham and Shah Rukh Khan, and how this led him to think about starring in Hindi cinemas. Ali said that after manifesting for five years, he finally got offers for three films. One was from Mahesh Bhatt’s production, another one was a romantic comedy, and the last one was Tere Bin Laden. He mentioned that while he was shooting for the last leg of the film, 26/11 Mumbai attacks happened. He said:
“When I was shooting the film in India, to aakhri kuch din jab shoot ho rahe the to Mumbai attacks usi waqt hi hua tha. Everybody asked me to come back home, I said ‘No, I’ll complete the film and come back, I have complete faith.’”
Ahmed Ali mentioned that the Indian media used to be ruthless, they never spared their own people and even targeted Ali Zafar a few times. He questioned how did he managed to stay away from all the negativities targeted at him. To this, Ali said:
“There is saying ki ‘agar aap negativity ko respond karte hai, it grows.’ It is best to not respond to it, unless you are put in a situation where you have to respond. Maine humesha iss chiz ko aise dekha ki agar aap India mein kaam nahi kar paa rahe toh ye koi bohot bada damage hua, nahi! I always believe ki koi bhi adversity aati hai usme ek opportunity bhi aati hai.”
