Pakistani actor, Babar Ali discussed the similarities between his character from 'The Legends Of Maula Jatt' and Ranbir Kapoor's 'Ranvijay Singh' from 'Animal'.
The 2023 blockbuster movie, Animal has been setting one record after the other ever since its release on December 1, 2023. The film critics and audience not only applauded Ranbir Kapoor’s performance as ‘Ranvijay Singh’ in the film but also appreciated his versatility as an actor. The grey-shaded character appealed to the masses as one of the most complex representations of human personalities. However, Pakistani netizens pointed out that Ranbir Kapoor’s character in the film had uncanny similarities with Babar Ali’s character in the film, The Legends Of Maula Jatt.
Recently, Babar Ali appeared on Samaa TV’s talk show with Vasay Chaudhary, where he revealed that he, too, found similarities in their characters. Babar Ali also highlighted certain scenes from both movies that were exactly the same. However, the ‘Maula Jatt’ of Pakistani industry very sweetly termed it as being inspired by one’s craft.

The December 2023 released Animal has become one of the highest-grossing movies of 2023. People from all around the globe have taken an interest in the movie and appreciated Ranbir Kapoor’s character, ‘Ranvijay Singh’. The 2022 Pakistani movie, The Legends Of Maula Jatt, had several scenes similar to Animal, and even the characterisation of both their leads was quite similar. Talking about the same, Babar Ali added:
“Hum kisi bhi chiz se inspiration le lete hai, kabhi koi hero se lete hai kabhi koi villain se leta hai. Kabhi koi director kisi aur director se leta hai, koi writer kisi writer se le leta hai. Hua yeh ki usme kuch chezein ek jaise ho gayi. Mere kaan se bhi guzri aur meine dekhi bhi. Hota hai yaar, yeh duniya hai.”
Babar Ali discussed that one cannot paint these similarities as copying, but this was a director and writer’s inspiration from his work. He also added that their get-up was almost the same, and so were their introductory scenes. He feels like the Indian makers were inspired by his work, and it is very normal to have a few similarities here and there.
