Parineeti Chopra On Why She Didn't Get Any Good Role In Last 10 Years, Says 'I Don't Go To Dinners'

In a recent interview, Parineeti Chopra opened up about facing the cruel effects of the lobbying system in Bollywood. She mentioned how one has to be part of cliques and camps to bag a role.

Parineeti Chopra is currently basking in the glory of her recently released film, Amar Singh Chamkila. She not only played the role of the late singer, Amar Singh Chamkila's second wife, Amarjot Kaur, but also gave proper justice to the same. But now, in a recent conversation, the actress opened up about the lobbying going on in Bollywood, and how she was not given much chance to show her acting prowess. For the unversed, Parineeti has worked in films, including Ishaqzaade, Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, Shuddh Desi Romance, Hasee Toh Phasee, and many others.

Parineeti Chopra says she does not like attending Bollywood parties to bag roles in films

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Parineeti Chopra opened up about the lack of opportunities in Bollywood due to lobbying over there. She talked about her preference to not go to Bollywood bashes only to bag a role. Instead, the actress mentioned her wish to get calls from Bollywood directors, who value her acting skills. Explaining the same, Parineeti shared:

“I don’t go to dinners and lunches or attend parties where work opportunities are created in Bollywood or those roles are discussed. I want directors and producers to call me for my work because I am willing to work hard. I won a National Award for Ishaqzaade 10 years ago. I am still the same actor.”

Parineeti mentions how getting work in Bollywood doesn't depend only on merit 

Parineeti mentioned how, despite winning a National Award for her acting prowess, she had to wait for ten years to get a good role on-screen. She was heard adding, “Parineeti is back. These words are ringing loud. Hadn’t thought of this. Yes, I am back, and not going anywhere!” The actress, who is receiving immense appreciation for her performance, in the film, Amar Singh Chamkila, spoke about the system of lobbying in the film industry. She shared:

“Getting work in Bollywood doesn’t only depend on merit or acting, you have to be in cliques and camps to get roles. I am not present at the right place at the right time. I am not getting papped every day.”

Speaking about how those actors who don't socialise with other stars and producers, miss out on significant films, Parineeti said, “My PR game sucks.” However, the actress mentioned that she wants to be the voice of many talented artists in the industry who didn't get jobs due to the lobbying system in Bollywood. However, mentioning how the socially awkward persons might also be equally talented to get good work and said:

“I want to be the voice for actors who aren’t parts of cliques and camps. I hope we break this system of lobbying in Bollywood because I want equal opportunities and work. I may have done the wrong films, but I am the same actor who started 10 years ago and is in search of the right platform.”

When Parineeti mentioned she had to gain weight for Amar Singh Chamkila, didn't make much public appearance at that time

Earlier, when Parineeti graced an episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show, alongside Diljit Dosanjh and filmmaker, Imtiaz Ali, she mentioned the challenges she faced to enact her part in the film, Amar Singh Chamkila. She mentioned how she had to gain 15 kgs of weight to perfectly nail the role of 'Amarjot Kaur'. Thus, she made fewer public appearances or did brand shoots. Further, heaping praises on Imtiaz Ali and Dibakar Banerjee, Parineeti had also mentioned that although her last two films flopped at the box office, the former duo didn't look after her market value. Instead, Imtiaz and Dibakar cast her for her work.
