After all the clamour around his second marriage with Priya Banerjee, and not inviting his father, Raj Babbar and step-siblings, Prateik Babbar has severed ties with his father and his family.
Prateik Babbar is the son of late Smita Patil and Raj Babbar. The actor seems to have been through a lot as he had made the bold decision not to invite his father, Raj Babbar, and his family to his second wedding with Priya Banerjee. In fact, Prateik made sure to take the blessings of his late mother, Smita Patil. After a month of clamour and his step-siblings. Arya Babbar and Juhi Babbar, openly expressing their displeasure, Prateik Babbar clearly stated that he wants to be known by his mother, Smita Patil's name.
In the latest interview with The Times Of India, Prateik Babbar and his wife, Priya, made shocking remarks. Priya went on to say that Raj Babbar was never in Prateik's life. The actor stated that he wants to embrace his mother's identity and let go of his father's name. He further added that he isn't worried about the challenges it could bring him. The actor said:
"I'm not thinking of any of that. I'm just thinking about what makes me and my soul feel better, and what makes my heart smile, not thinking if it will negatively affect my career. I don't care about the repercussions. All I care about is the way I feel when I hear that name. I need to be wholly and solely associated with my mother (Smita Patil), her name and her legacy. I don't think any other name needs to taint that legacy, if you understand what I mean. It needs to just be her name and her legacy. That's what I'm striving to be. I'm striving to be like my mother and not like my dad. It feels like a new chapter."
Further, in the same interview, Prateik Babbar was questioned if not inviting his father, Raj Babbar and his family to his second wedding would change their equation, it was Priya who gave a prompt reply. Without mincing her words, Priya clearly stated that there was nothing to change. She further clarified that the family was never there, and the 'person (Raj Babbar) was never there in his life. She said:
"There is nothing to change. There was never anything there. So, I'm confused when people comment, ‘You did this to somebody’. But no, that family was never there, that person (hinting at Raj Babbar) was never there in his life. So, I'm not sure why that question is coming up now, 30 years later."
Prateik Babbar was even questioned about his earlier statement about 'mending his ways' with the family. The actor shared that he cannot talk about this right now as it is a complication. Within seconds, Priya jumped in, taking his side and tried to explain the things he had felt since he lost his mother at two weeks old. She made sharp comments about trollers and family members, passing rude comments that there had been a lot Prateik had been through.
