Pre-Wedding Jitters

Question
Since I am getting into an arranged marriage I am very skeptical about fulfilling my fiancée’s desires and needs. I am wondering if we are compatible enough to spend the rest of our lives together because I don’t find any similar interests among us. We had 4 months to get to know each other but it hardly helped! We will be married in two months. I am worried and find myself thinking about my future all the time. What should I do?

Answer
Some couples are very lucky as they hit it off right from the beginning and the relationship only gets better with time. For others, every effort is required to even out any psychological differences which may seem to throw up obstacles or even hurt the relationship. It appears that you are faced with prewedding jitters and the best relationship advice for you is to spend as much time as possible with your fiancée in the next two months. Talk to your partner and find out if he/she feels the same or seek reassurance from him/her. Upon spending more time together you might enjoy his/her company and be able to reassure yourself that this is the first step towards a long and happily married life. It is okay to be nervous because marriage is after all a huge change and an arranged marriage could leave you with lingering thoughts of “do I know him/her well enough?” Have you heard of the old phrase, "This too shall pass"? However if you are having trouble with your fiancé’s traits, lifestyle, behaviors or even have a concern about a specific area in your relationship, seek wedding advice from a counselor. However hard they try family and friends can never be objective in such situations. Good luck!
