Prem Chopra Feared Random Women Showing Up At His Wedding, Saying, 'Main Tumhare Bachche Ki Maa..'

Prem Chopra made Jeetendra stand at the gate of his wedding venue as he feared random women could show up and claim that they were pregnant with his child.

Veteran actor, Prem Chopra is popularly known for his roles in movies such as Doli, Upkaar, and Do Raaste, among others. In his career spanning over five decades, he has done nearly 400 films and was recently seen in the blockbuster film Animal. It was in 1969 when Prem Chopra tied the knot with Uma Kapoor in an arranged love marriage set-up. The couple has three daughters, Rakita, Punita and Prerana. Now, in a new interview, the veteran actor recalled anecdotes about his wedding.

Prem Chopra opened up about his marriage with his wife, Uma Chopra

During the podcast, Timeout With Ankit, Prem Chopra opened up about his marriage with his wife, Uma. Talking about the same, he revealed that the late legendary actor Raj Kapoor initiated his sister-in-law's proposal for marriage to him at Krishna Raj Kapoor's request. As Krishna found Prem to be the perfect life partner for her sister, Uma, Raj Kapoor told Prem that Uma likes him a lot. In his words:

“Krishna ji (Raj Kapoor’s wife) asked around about me. She asked, ‘How is the guy.’ People said, ‘He is good. Has a great future.’ Then Raj Kapoor met me and said, ‘She is a very nice girl. Think about her.’ Prem replied, ‘Definitely, I will’.”

Prem Chopra warned the pandit to complete his wedding in five minutes

Upon Krishna and Raj Kapoor's advice, Prem Chopra started meeting Uma, and after a couple of meetings, he developed a liking for her. Soon, the arranged setup between the two transformed into a love affair as they decided to marry each other. In the same interview, the veteran actor recalled warning the pandit to finish the wedding in five minutes. He said:

“We were getting married at the Sun and Sand hotel, and I told the pandit, ‘Within five minutes everything should get over'."

Prem Chopra recalls asking Jeetendra to stand at the gate at his wedding

Prem Chopra also shared a funny anecdote from his wedding and recalled how he asked Jeetendra to stand at the gate and ensure that the police didn't come inside. Revealing the reason behind the same, the veteran actor mentioned that back then, women and police would appear at the wedding and create a nuisance. In his words:

"But before that, I told Jeetendra, ‘You stand outside. See that no police comes.’ In those times, police would show up at weddings and accuse you of some crime, and women would show up and say, ‘Mai tumhare bache ki maa banne wali hun.’ I told Jeetendra, ‘Don’t let the police and women come inside, send them away’.”

In a previous interview with Filmfare, Prem Chopra opened up about his wife, Uma Chopra's impact on him and his life. He shared that he was loyal to her despite so much attention from girls around him during most of his career. The veteran actor added that his wife trusted him and didn’t believe the stories published about him and his heroines.
