Popular Bollywood actress, Chitrangda Singh once accused Pritish Nandy's son, Kushan Nandy, of harassment during the shooting of 'Babumoshai Bandookbaaz'.
Pritish Nandy passed away on January 8, 2025, in Mumbai, reportedly due to cardiac arrest at the age of 73. The sudden passing of Pritish, who was an eminent writer, journalist, poet, translator, filmmaker, and parliamentarian, shocked everyone. The man with many talents, Pritish, has authored forty books in the English language. Some of his most famous books include Careless Whispers, Peerless Minds: An Arc of Achievement, Riding the Midnight River, Again, Stuck on 1/Forty, and many more.
Talking about his personal life, Pritish Nandy is survived by his wife, Rina Nandy and three children, Kushan Nandy, Ishita Nandy, and Rangita Nandy. For the uninitiated, Rina is registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Kushan is a writer and film director, and Ishita is a film producer. However, not everyone is aware that Kushan Nandy is quite a popular name in the Indian film industry.
Kanishka Kushan Nandy, better known as Kushan Nandy, kick-started his journey as a filmmaker when he started working as an independent director in the television industry. After making a series of documentaries and music videos, he went on to direct Hindi-language feature films. Kushan's first Hindi film was a mystery thriller titled 88 Antop Hill (2003), featuring Atul Kulkarni in the lead role.
In the following years, Kushan Nandy directed two more films, Hum Dum (2005), Babumoshai Bandookbaaz (2017), and Jogira Sara Ra Ra (2023). Some of his famous works in the television industry include the likes of Do Lafzon Ki Kahani, Mumbai City Scam, Fatal Attraction, Zee Millennium Show, Ek Raja Ek Rani, Raajkahaani, and many more. Despite working on a series of memorable projects, Kushan Nandy's name broke into the headlines back in 2017 when he was working on the film, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz.
It was in 2018 when, in an interview with a leading publication, Chitrangda Singh revealed that she was Kushan Nandy's first choice to play the lead in his film, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz. When asked why she left the role, which was bagged by Bidita Bag later, Chitrangda shockingly revealed that she was allegedly harassed by the film's director, Kushan Nandy. The '#MeToo movement' was going on in Bollywood back then, and Chitrangda joined the long list of actresses who suffered harassment in Bollywood.
Further, in the same interview, Chitrangda Singh accused Kushan Nandy of sexual harassment and revealed what the director allegedly told her to do on the sets of Babumoshai Bandookbaaz. The actress said Kushan told her, "Apna peticoat uthao aur ragdo apne aap ko," and she was left horrified listening to such a thing. Chitrangda also added that Nawazuddin Siddiqui was there, but he didn't intervene or take a stand against Kushan's misbehaviour.
As soon as Chitrangda Singh's accusations started making a lot of noise in the film industry, the media started asking questions from Babumoshai Bandookbaaz's director, Kushan Nandy. The filmmaker denied the allegations and stated that Chitrangda Singh exited the film because of the intimate scenes. Not only this, Kushan also added that Chitrangda wanted to make some changes in the script, but he wasn't in favour of it. Despite such a huge controversy, Kushan's father, Pritish Nandy, remained quiet and didn't react to it.
Several people criticised Kushan Nandy after Chitrangda Singh accused him of sexual harassment. Not only he but even the film's lead actor, Nawazuddin Singh, was subjected to trolls for not taking a stand against such activities. According to several trade experts, Chitrangda Singh's controversial comments on Kushan Nandy reportedly played a big part in Babumoshai Bandookbaaz's failure at the box office.
