Madhu Chopra recently revealed how her daughter, Priyanka Chopra, went to great lengths to celebrate the former's birthday.
Priyanka Chopra has never shied away from expressing her love for her dear ones. Be it dancing her heart out at her brother, Siddharth Chopra's wedding or showering her friends with support with a shoutout on social media, the actress has always been there. She did the same thing for her mother, Madhu Chopra, after her father, Ashok Chopra, died.
Madhu Chopra recently sat for a conversation with Lehren Retro and took a walk down memory lane. She shared how her daughter Priyanka Chopra went to great lengths to arrange a birthday party for her. Madhu revealed that it was her first birthday after her husband, Ashok Chopra's death. However, Priyanka wanted to celebrate her birthday.
Madhu revealed that Priyanka was determined to bring a smile back to her face. She added that her 60th birthday fell only six days after her husband's passing, and it was PeeCee who insisted that they should celebrate Madhu's birthday. She shared that the entire family was already present because of the unfortunate incident, so the actress urged everyone to stay and celebrate with them. She was quoted as saying:
"He passed away on June 10 and my birthday is on June 16. I was turning 60 and they had planned a big party for me. The whole family was already there due to his illness. After his passing, we were grieving, but Priyanka insisted that we go ahead with the party and asked everyone to stay. She said, 'That's what dad would have wanted."
In the same conversation, Madhu Chopra revealed that on the day of the party, Priyanka brought her a gift she will never forget. For the unversed, Madhu is a devoted fan of John Abraham. So, PeeCee requested her Dostana co-star to arrive at midnight, wrapped as a birthday gift. Madhu shared the memories from the party and stated:
"They had requested John to come at midnight, wrapped like a birthday present. Imagine that! Priyanka said, 'Mom has to have her moment.' It was such a fun party with a DJ and music."
In the same conversation, Madhu Chopra further shared that while she was trying to enjoy the party and appreciate the effort made by her children, her relatives sat there gloomily. She added that they shamed her for dancing and enjoying herself. However, she chose to honour her late husband by celebrating with her kids. She was quoted as:
"But the rest of the family sat there gloomily, saying, 'Look at her! She’s dancing! Does she not grieve for her husband?' Meanwhile, I was thinking, 'My daughter arranged all this; my kids put in so much effort. They’re all suffering and grieving, but this is how she is honouring her dad.' Priyanka even said, 'I am honouring his wish and you better fall in line with it.' That’s the person she is."
