Priyanka Chopra recalled the time when she shifted her base from India to the West and labelled it a 'dark and scary' time. She also revealed how she coped with multiple rejections.
Priyanka Chopra has made a name for herself not only in the Indian film industry but also in Hollywood. The actress, who ventured into showbiz after winning the Miss World pageant in 2000, has worked in several popular Bollywood films, including Krrish, Don 2, Fashion, Barfi, Mary Kom, Bajirao Mastani, and many more. On the other hand, PeeCee has captivated her fans all around the world with her power-packed performances in Quantico, Citadel, Love Again, Baywatch and more.
Recently, the global superstar sat for a conversation with Cavanaugh James on his podcast, Read The Room. During the conversation, the actress spoke about transitioning from Bollywood to Hollywood and the challenges she encountered when she switched her place of work. Despite her extensive filmography in Indian showbiz, Priyanka faced several rejections in the West. In her words:
“It was like starting all over again. I started right from the beginning. I have been on the cover of a certain magazine six times in my country, but in the US, they wouldn't even take a meeting with me. That took a lot, and I was like it’s okay!”

Despite the constant setbacks she came across, PeeCee kept moving forward and looked at the rejections as humbling experiences. Moreover, she kept her head down and did all the hard yards to reach the stage where she is now at present. Sharing how she promised not to be upset about rejections, Priyanka added:
“It humbles you to be like this is where I am right now. I was like I am not going to be upset by it, or I am not going to say that's a closed door, I am going to navigate something else. I am gonna see where else I can go, and what else can be my next move. I put my head down and did the work. I didn't bring my pride of 'I am a leading lady and blah blah...' I didn’t do that and that's what helped me find a position in which I am today.”

Furthermore, Priyanka mentioned that she was scared when she shifted her base to Hollywood. She revealed not having any friends in New York City and said that everything was new to her. Priyanka labelled the initial years of being in the West as the ‘dark period of her life’, and said:
“But when I moved countries again, it’s an industry that I don’t know, the people, I don’t know, I didn't have friends who would call at 2 in the morning. That's very important. I was very lonely, and it was very scary. I was in New York City, which, anyway, is a daunting city. It was a dark period of my life.”
In the same conversation, Priyanka also mentioned that she is a solution-oriented person and wants everything to be solved. According to her, there comes a time in everyone’s life when there are no solutions, and people have to go through tough situations. This is exactly what helped her ride the wave instead of fighting it, which led her to reach a chill place in her life where good, bad, or ugly, she doesn’t let anything rip through her like it used to.
