Priyanka Chopra Jonas shared a very warm bond with her late father, Dr Ashok Malhotra. In 2013, he had passed away, leaving a void in her life. On his 6th death anniversary, Priyanka remembers him.
Every daughter is her father’s little girl and international sensation, Priyanka Chopra Jonas is no exception. It is known to many of us that Priyanka was extremely close to her father, Dr Ashok Chopra, so much so, that she even got inked on her right wrist, “Daddy’s lil girl”, which is in her late dad’s handwriting. Such was the warmth and bond that Priyanka and Ashok ji shared. Suddenly, it came as a jolt when in 2013, he had passed away with a blink of an eye.
For the unaware ones, Dr Ashok Chopra was suffering from cancer since 2008 and after struggling hard for over five years, he breathed his last on June 10, 2013. This was the topsy-turvy time for her, but Priyanka chose to remain strong and take care of her mom, Madhu Chopra and baby brother, Siddharth Chopra. Today, on June 10, 2019, it was Priyanka’s father, Dr Ashok Chopra’s sixth death anniversary. She took to her official Instagram handle and penned a note remembering him. In the picture we can see little Priyanka sitting atop a tree and posing right from there, while Dr Chopra keeps an eye on her. Sharing the following throwback childhood picture of herself with her dad, Priyanka wrote, “6 years. Seems Like just yesterday we lost you. I miss you Dad. Inexplicably.” Checkout:
Soon after she posted this picture and the note, hubby Nick Jonas commented and dropped a heart emoji on the post. On the other hand, her father-in-law, Kevin Jonas Sr, wrote in the comment section, “All our love sweet daughter-in-law. Nothing can replace such a special man, but we are here to surround your heart with love and support.” Also, famous television actress, Hina Khan, who got along with her tremendously well at a recent held Cannes Film Festival commented, “I still remember the stories you shared with me about your father. May his soul rest in peace.” Here are the screenshots of all the comments:
In 2018, Priyanka had shared a video of her father’s photographs. In the video, she had said, “My dad was my best friend, my idol and my protector. He was the man of my life. I was very close to my father, he was my superhero, my idol. I wanted to grow up and be him. He was a musician, he used to perform on stage, he was a surgeon, he was an artist, he was the life of a party, gregarious laughter, extremely confident man.” (Also Check: Dipika Kakar Can't Stop Gushing As Shoaib Ibrahim Pays A Surprise Visit On Set, Pictures Inside)
In a throwback interview in 2016 with the Hindustan Times, Priyanka had talked about her father’s death and had stated, “His death has been a big blow. I still haven’t dealt with it. I don’t know if I’ve healed, but it doesn’t hurt either. I don’t think I have accepted it. I feel like I’m travelling all over the world, and dad will be home when I return. I think grief becomes your constant companion. You just learn to live with it.”
On Mother’s Day 2018, Priyanka had posted a special wish for her mother, Madhu Chopra. In the post, she had revealed the one thing she had promised her father. Priyanka had then written, "The one thing I promised Dad was to keep you smiling. It makes me so happy to see you so full of life Ma .. you are the definition of Vibrancy! I always wish you happiness and joy. You are my strength and weakness all in one. If I'm even 5% of you my life will be pretty amazing! Thank you for making it as incredible as it is by being you! Love to the moon and back. #happymothersday.” (Do Check: Malaika Arora Trolled For Wearing Saree Like A 'Sanskari Bahu' At Sonam Kapoor Ahuja's Birthday Bash)
In an interaction with TellyChakkar sometime ago, Priyanka had talked reverently about her dad and how she had played with him during her childhood days. The Quantico star was then quoted as saying, “My dad is really tall. And I was just 2 or 3. I’d always try to pass through his legs and he’d clamp my neck as I did so. My earliest memory is of me howling because my Dad wouldn’t let me pass through his legs. He had a bike which I loved to take rides on.”
Elaborating further, she had quipped, “My Nanajee lives there. I visit him regularly. As a child I loved reading. I just loved sitting on the window and reading and watching down on the streets. My dad was in the army so we were always on the move. He taught me to drive at 13 when he’d take me to school. I was very scared of driving. My dad used to be a doctor in the army until he took voluntary retirement in 1997. He’s a trained artiste, painter and singer. He used to be called the singing surgeon. He used to do shows for the army. I’ve inherited a fondness for singing from my dad. One of my earliest memories at 3 is of my dad on stage looking at me and singing. If he didn’t look at me and sing I’d get extremely miffed. Sometimes he used to call me up on stage to sing an African song that I knew.”
In the same interview, she had also talked about her qualms as she was apprehensive about her father’s reaction when she decided to participate in Miss India. Mrs Jonas had remarked, “We come from a very conservative family. All this glamour and showbiz was very new to my dad. It was my mom who told him about my plans. I wasn’t willing to talk to him about it. Initially, he wasn’t convinced. But my mom and I reasoned it was just a holiday in Mumbai and that I didn’t stand a chance in hell of winning. Who knew?! I had never modelled before. I had my portfolio done for the first time for the pageant. I thought of myself as a very ugly child. I saw myself as an ugly duckling who’s one day turn into a swan. I believe in fairy tales. I used to cry before my mom about how ugly I was. Even now it takes 90 minutes of hair clothes and makeup to make me look decent.” (Checkout: Suhana Khan's Latest Dance Video Is A Trendsetter, She Gives Best Dancers A Run For Their Money)
