Rahul Raj Singh finally breaks his silence on Pratyusha Banerjee's death with receipts, and counterclaims Kamya Punjabi's allegations against him.
Pratyusha Banerjee, best known for her role as ‘Anandi’ in the iconic show, Balika Vadhu, passed away on April 1, 2016, in what was ruled as an alleged suicide. However, the controversy surrounding her death has continued to make headlines over the years. Pratyusha’s former boyfriend, Rahul Raj Singh recently opened up about the case in detail, revealing shocking information against Pratyusha’s family and friends, particularly actress, Kamya Punjabi, whom he accused of falsely framing him.
Kamya Punjabi, who used to be a close friend of Pratyusha Banerjee, had publicly accused Rahul of being responsible for Pratyusha’s death, labelling it a murder. Now, in a candid conversation with Subhojit Ghosh in his podcast, The Sunny G Show, Rahul claimed that Kamya was one of the first people to suggest foul play in media interviews shortly after Pratyusha’s passing. Her statements and those of others like Vikas Gupta fueled widespread speculation and accusations against him, leading to legal troubles that continue to haunt him.
Rahul shared how, when Pratyusha’s co-contestants from Bigg Boss, including Rakhi Sawant and Vikas Gupta noticed so much media coverage going around the actress’s death, they started a narrative that the actress could not commit suicide and that it was a murder. He told Subhojit Ghosh:
“Ye baat jab bawal ban gaya, to Kamya Punjabi aa gayi, Vikas Gupta aa gaya, bole ki ‘ye zaroor Rahul ne murder kiya hai’… ke ‘Pratyusha ko koi financial problem nahi tha, wo bilkul theek thi, koi kaam ki kami nahi thi’… Vikas Gupta ne kabhi kaam nahi diya Pratyusha ko, par unhone kaha sab media ne…logon ko bhi lagne laga ki ye ladka (Rahul) ne hi kuch kiya hoga.”
Rahul revealed that despite earning around Rs. 30 lakhs in 2015-2016, Pratyusha was under immense financial pressure due to her family’s issues. He also accused actress Kamya Punjabi of borrowing Rs. 2.5 lakhs from Pratyusha, which was never repaid. Rahul shared:
“I did not know Kamya. Pratyusha introduced me to her once at a party. Kamya was totally high. Pratyusha had given some money to Kamya around Rs 2 – Rs 2.5 lakh and she asked Kamya to return it. Kamya said she had no work and promised to return later when she got the money.”
Further in the interview, Rahul shared how Kamya’s constant partying and lifestyle choices led to a rift between him and Pratyusha’s social circle. Talking about her influence on Pratyusha’s life, Rahul said in the interview:
“They used to drink a lot. I always wanted Pratyusha to stop drinking. Her friends used to party a lot. She knew that I was asking her to stop drinking for her benefit and therefore, she stopped going to such parties. That’s why I became a villain for them. They thought I was taking away Pratyusha from them. Kamya used to party a lot, everyone knows."
For the uninitiated, Pratyusha’s parents had filed a complaint against Rahul after her alleged suicide. Following Kamya’s accusations and the subsequent media coverage, Rahul was booked under IPC sections for abetment to suicide, criminal intimidation, and assault. However, later, the court highlighted evidence suggesting emotional and financial harassment.
