Raj Kapoor did not visit Babita in the hospital when Karisma Kapoor was born and kept a condition and declared that he will visit the baby only if his condition is fulfilled.
Raj Kapoor resonates with the essence of Indian cinema. He is often referred to as the 'Charlie Chaplin' of Indian Cinema. Over the years, his career has been adorned with numerous accolades, including three National Film Awards, eleven Filmfare Awards in India, and the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, bestowed upon him in 1987 by the Government of India.
Raj Kapoor was very affectionate towards his kids and grandkids, and it is also known that Karisma Kapoor was his favourite. But did you all know that Raj Kapoor kept a condition before Karisma was born? He added that he would only visit the hospital if the newborn has blue eyes. In the book, Raj Kapoor: The One and Only Showman, Babita said:
“I remember the day Lolo was born, the entire family was with me by my side at Breach Candy Hospital, except my father-in-law. He said that he would come to the hospital only if the newborn had blue eyes. Thank the lord that Lolo had deep blue eyes, like my father-in-law.”
Babita clarified that Raj Kapoor did not visit the hospital until and unless he was informed that the newborn baby had dark blue eyes. She was grateful and relieved after seeing Karisma's eye colour.
In the book, Raj Kapoor's daughter, Ritu Nanda, said that during childhood, Karisma Kapoor used to sit on Raj Kapoor's lap and share with her grandfather that she wanted to become an actress. To this, Raj Kapoor encouraged her and even predicted that Karisma would become a big and successful actress. Ritu Nanda added:
“It is strange but Lolo (Karisma) also would be asked the same question by her grandfather! Lolo also used to say that I want to be an actor, and he would say the same line that one day you will be a big star.”
Sharing a heartwarming memory with her dadu, Raj Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan affectionately admitted that her grandfather had a soft corner for her sister, Karisma Kapoor. Sharing the reason, Bebo revealed that Karisma had blue eyes, just like their grandfather. However, she inherited her father, Randhir Kapoor's green eyes. The actress further shared that Raj Kapoor used to give her one mango during the summer season, while he gave two mangoes to Karisma because he favoured her. She lovingly said:
"My grandfather Raj Kapoor was biased towards Karisma because both of them had blue eyes. I have green eyes as that of my father. During summer seasons he would give two mangoes to Karisma and I would end up getting just one. I had to work hard to please him."
