Rajdeep Sardesai is one of the most prominent personalities in the news spectrum. The Indian news anchor, reporter, and author is also a consulting editor for India Today Television. The media baron is known for calling a spade a spade and never mincing his words. His recently released book, 2024: The Election That Surprised India, is leading the headlines for its unfiltered take on Indian politics.
Rajdeep, who has been in the business of TV news, penned about the various aspects of Indian politics and how PM Narendra Modi felt that media was unfair to him. Rajdeep is one of the most sought-after news anchors in India. But do you know that his wife, Sagarika Ghose, too is a leading name in the newsroom?
Sagarika has worked with some of the leading newspapers and news channels throughout her career. Though the couple is rarely seen on social media, but are often called as the leading pillars of journalism. While scrolling through our social media handle, we came across a picture from Rajdeep and Sagarika’s wedding day on April 11, 1994. In the picture, Rajdeep, dressed in a brown suit, matching tie and white shirt, looks unrecognizable as he posed with Sagarika, who looked stunning in a baby pink-coloured attire.
Just like Rajdeep, Sagarika is also an acclaimed journalist and author. Born in Delhi, Sagarika began her career as a journalist in 1991 at The Times Of India, Outlook magazine and The Indian Express. She was the prime-time anchor of the news network CNN-IBN. She became the first woman to host Question Time India in 2004. She also published a biography on former Indian Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Throughout her career, Sagarika has received a lot of applause for her excellent work in media. In 2024, she joined the All India Trinamool Congress and was elected as the party’s candidate for the Rajya Sabha. She married Rajdeep Sardesai in 1994 and the couple has two children, a son, Ishan Sardesai, who is ENT surgeon and a daughter, Tarini, who is an advocate.
On the other hand, Rajdeep Sardesai is the son of Dilip Sardesai, a former Indian Test cricketer. Rajdeep’s journalism career began in 1988 when he joined The Times Of India as the city Editor. He entered TV journalism in 1994 as a political editor in NDTV. In 2005, Rajdeep quit NDTV and began his own company, GBN (Global Broadcast News). The channel was named CNN-IBN.
In 2014, Reliance Industries Ltd. acquired CNN-IBN. The Editor-in-Chief, Rajdeep Sardesai, and his wife, Sagarika Ghose, who was the Deputy Editor of the channel along with the entire editorial team, resigned. Both Rajdeep and Sagarika bid adieu to the channel. Rajdeep’s resignation letter also hinted about losing editorial independence. An excerpt from his email can be read as:
“Editorial independence and integrity have been articles of faith in 26 years in journalism and maybe I am too old now to change!”
