Rajesh Khanna is the first superstar of Hindi cinema and has a crazy fan following. No other actor could ever surpass his superstardom. In the '70s, his female fans would write him letters with blood. Not only this, but his car would be covered with lipstick marks wherever it was parked. Talking about his work, he had given 17 consecutive hit films during the early '70s, and is still considered a legend. However, Rajesh Khanna's films dramatically stopped working, and his personal life also hit a rough patch.

Years later, he was diagnosed with cancer, and he passed away in 2012 at the age of 69 in his famous bungalow, Ashirwad. During those days, there was a tale that the bungalow, which Rajesh Khanna had bought, was haunted and brought misfortune to its owner. And if you hear the story behind the bungalow, you will also think that the lavish bungalow might be cursed.

Rajesh Khanna's home was haunted, the first owner suffered huge debt, and he had to sell the bungalow

In India, there is a saying that land holds a lot of energy, and it can make a person or break one. And it seems like Rajesh Khanna's home had some energies that brought misfortune to its owners. The first owner of this lavish bungalow in Carter Road was a famous actor in the '50s, Bharat Bhushan. His films like Baiju Bawra, Mirza Ghalib, Gateway of India and many more were considered superhits of that time. However, soon, his films began to flop at the box office, and he incurred huge debt. In the end, he had to sell off his home due to heavy losses.

The second owner, Rajendra Kumar, bought the 'haunted bungalow' for Rs. 60,000, but he was also forced to sell it off 

After Bharat Bhushan had sold the home, no one was willing to buy the place even at a cheap price. However, actor, Rajendra Kumar, who didn't believe in ghost stories, bought it for just Rs. 60,000. Reports claim that his actor-friend, Manoj Kumar advised Rajendra Kumar to perform puja before shifting to the bungalow. Later, Rajendra Kumar named the bungalow after his daughter, 'Dimple'. He continued to make it big in Bollywood. However, Rajendra Kumar's films stopped working around 1968-69, and he incurred huge losses. History repeated itself, and he, too, had to sell it off.

The third owner, Rajesh Khanna, bought the haunted bungalow for Rs. 3.5 lakhs in the '70s

When Rajesh Khanna learned that Rajendra Kumar was planning to sell the bungalow, he convinced him and finally bought the place for reportedly Rs. 3.5 lakhs. The superstar renamed the bungalow Ashirwad. He worked hard and partied harder every night at his luxurious bungalow. He got married to Dimple Kapadia in this home, and his daughters, Twinkle and Rinke, were born here. However, Rajesh Khanna's married life hit a rough patch, and Dimple left him. His films also stopped working by the end of the '70s, and he was replaced by Amitabh Bachchan. It is said that Rajesh Khanna would relax in one of his bungalow's rooms with a glass of whisky, but he never considered selling the place, which was close to his heart, and a token of his great stardom.

After Rajesh Khanna's death, the bungalow was sold for Rs. 90 crores

After the demise of Rajesh Khanna, which marked the end of an era, Twinkle Khanna and Rinke Khanna decided to sell of the bungalow. According to murmurs, in 2014, the 603 sqm bungalow was sold for Rs. 90 crores to an industrialist, Shashi Kiran Shetty, and the property was divided among his daughters.
