Rakul Preet Singh's parents have always been supportive of her choices. In fact, her dad was so supportive of her Miss India journey that he even wanted to help her pick out bikinis.
Actress Rakul Preet Singh’s journey started in the South with the Kannada film, Gilli (2009). Following the film’s success, she returned to college to finish her degree while also pursuing modelling. This decision led Rakul down the path to the Miss India pageant in 2011. And since her Bollywood debut in the 2014 film, Yaariyan, Rakul has become a recognised face in Hindi cinema as well. Recently, the talented actress opened up about how much her parents’ support impacted her career choices and her path to fame.
Rakul Preet placed fifth in the Miss India pageant in 2011 and won a total of five titles, including ‘Miss India People’s Choice.’ However, no one was prouder of her efforts than her parents. Recently in a Filmfare interview, Rakul revealed a funny incident in which her dad tried to support her pageant journey by going bikini shopping with her. She said:
“My dad wanted to come shopping with me for bikinis, telling me to buy bright colours.”
Rakul then let out a laugh and confessed that she was extremely grateful for her father’s support. However, she preferred to go shopping with her mother. In her words:
“I was like, ‘Okay, I know you love me but I will take mom with me.’ I have been very lucky to have supportive parents.”
In the same interview, Rakul revealed that it was actually her mother’s idea for her to join the entertainment industry. Talking more about her mom's thought process, she told Filmfare:
“My mom made me see that I am a drama queen who should explore showbiz. She encouraged me to try for Miss India and start modeling. My dad has always been very supportive as well.”
Rakul further elaborated that her parents have been her backbone behind every decision. According to the actress, her parents taught her to keep her head on her shoulders. Not only that, but they would tell her to pack her bags and “come home” any time they felt she was losing her way.
Fans, who only know Rakul Preet Singh as the glam diva she is today, might be surprised to find out that she once used to be a tomboy. For that reason, young Rakul found a lot of comfort in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’s ‘Anjali’, who was played by Kajol.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Rakul once revealed that her style evolution had been quite similar to that of ‘Anjali’. While everyone she knew was captivated by ‘Tina’, she was always drawn to ‘Anjali’s’ simplicity and carefree attitude. Over the years, Rakul, too, evolved from a tomboy to a “glamorous avatar” like her favourite character.
