Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor struggle to talk in Hindi with PM Narendra Modi enraging the netizens who mock the actors for not being well versed with their own mother tongue.
The Kapoor family, a cornerstone of Indian cinema, recently journeyed to New Delhi. The influential members, including Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Karisma Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, and others, were on a mission of great significance. Their purpose was to extend a special invitation to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, at his residence. The Kapoors, in their influential role, will be celebrating the 100th birth anniversary of the legendary actor, Raj Kapoor. They have chosen to honour the filmmaker’s life and works with a nationwide screening of some of his most iconic films, thus preserving his legacy and the essence of Indian cinema.
Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor and the majority of the Kapoor clan members are native Hindi speakers who work in the Bollywood Hindi film industry. So, it came as a surprise to many when the actors struggled to talk in their own mother tongue. Ranbir Kapoor even adapted to talk in a weird 'Hinglish' language and pronounced sawal as 'sawals', making himself a subject of public mockery.
Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor were no different as they all faced difficulties in framing their thoughts in Hindi sentences. While they were very fluent in English, their Hindi seemed different. In a world where netizens always closely observe public figures, the Kapoor clan's Hindi goof-up was not missed by netizens who mercilessly mocked them.
An OP shared a snippet of the Kapoor clan's interview on Reddit, and therein netizens shared their two cents about the clan's Hindi. A user wrote, "I wonder how wonderfully he will play Lord Ram after hearing his “Sawaalz“ While another penned, "Why does it feel like Alia is reading a script from below? Also, Kareena's sentence, even with a better hindi command, sounds very wrong." Mocking them an actor commented, "After hearing this bunch speak about this meeting I truly believe they’re actors. Real actors."

The main purpose of the meet was to honour the towering legacy of Raj Kapoor, popularly regarded as the Showman of Bollywood. The Raj Kapoor 100 Film Festival, will run from December 13 to 15, 2024, and will showcase 10 of his iconic films across 40 cities, bringing his timeless artistry to newer generations. Some of his iconic and rare films, including Aag, Barsaat, Awara, Shree 420, and Mera Naam Joker are among the classics that will be screened at the festival. Talking about the legendary actor’s 100th birth anniversary, Narendra Modi shared:
"Raj Kapoor's 100th birthday is an important milestone of Indian cinema's golden journey. It began with 1947's 'Neel Kamal' and we are on course to 2047. It is such a contribution to the country when we look back at this journey of 100 years… In the diplomatic world, we talk a lot about soft power. And at a time when this phrase didn't even exist, Raj Kapoor Sahab established India's soft power all over the world. It was his big service to India.”
