We stumbled upon an old interview with Randhir Kapoor, in which he opened up about the real reason behind calling himself 'a very bad father' for his daughters, Karisma and Kareena.
Randhir Kapoor was amongst some of the eminent actors in the 1970s. He has been part of a number of films, including Jeet, Hamrahi, Jawani Diwani, Lafange, Ponga Pandit, Raampur Ka Lakshman, and Haath Ki Safai, among others. However, his career declined in the early 1980s, after which Randhir was rarely seen in films. Coming to his personal life, he and his veteran actress wife, Babita Kapoor, are proud parents of their princesses, Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan, who themselves made a name in the film industry.
If Randhir Kapoor's revelations are to be believed, Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan indeed made their places in the film business on their own, without the help of their father. We stumbled upon a throwback interview of him with Radio channel, 92.5's host, Bhawna Somaaiya, wherein Randhir talked about how his daughters established themselves without taking his help. Further, mentioning that his wife, Babita was the driving force in their daughters' careers, he said:
"I am very proud of my two daughters. They had made it on their own streak. Yes, the driving force was Babita, I give full credit to their mother, but they have worked very hard.”

In the same conversation, Randhir opened up about his disbelief in the fact that his little girls one day could successfully make it big in the industry. Well, Randhir's revelations are much like any other doting daddy. Then, he talked about the career advice he gave to Karisma and Kareena at the beginning of their careers. Not only that, the proud father further added:
“When they were very small I never imagined that they would turn out to be such big artistes. I had told them exactly what my father (Raj Kapoor) told me, that you want to do it, do it for sure, if it was a bad profession then we ourselves wouldn’t be in it. If we are doing this work, how can we tell you not to do it? But if you are doing it be the best at it. I am very proud to say that my two daughters have worked very hard to achieve the great success that they have without any support from me.”
However, Randhir then called himself a ‘very bad father’ for not supporting Kareena and Karisma’s career. He mentioned how his career went off-track due to his madness. But revealing that now he wants only his kids to flourish in their respective jobs, Randhir concluded:
“That way I have been a very bad father but then main bawla hoon, everyone knows I am a bit mad. I don’t want to work very hard, I don’t want to work in many pictures, offers still come, I don’t (take them up). I have earned in my life, now my kids earn much more than me, so I am content, we have food and clothes and home, we have everything, so what more do I want, why should I run around morning to night at this age?”

Earlier, while in a conversation at The Indian Express’s Adda event, Kareena Kapoor credited her father, Randhir Kapoor for helping her and Karisma Kapoor to break the taboo of the women in the Kapoor family not stepping in the film industry. She further denied the claims that her father didn't support her in her career and narrated an incident when her father called her during a shoot. She mentioned that then Radhir would be very apologetic and would ask her to focus on work. In addition, she shared that her father's thinking has been way ahead of his time.
