In a recent award show, Rani Mukerji recalls the time when she was asked to wear a short dress at the age of 17 for the song, 'Koi Mil Gaya' in 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'.
Bollywood actress, Rani Mukerji is well-known for essaying powerful characters in her movies. Rani, who made her acting debut in 1996 with Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat, is considered one of the finest stars of all time. It was in 1998 when she left the audience spellbound with her performances in the film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and established herself as one of the top female actresses of her generation.
While over the years, Rani Mukerji has worked in many hit films, including Mardaani, No One Killer Jessica, Hichki and many others, her role in Karan Johar’s blockbuster, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai undeniably remains one of the most loved characters of all time. Released in 1998, the romantic drama is still one of the most loved movies as people keep enjoying it even now. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji in the lead roles, the film also had Salman Khan's special appearance in it.

Rani Mukerji, who essayed the role of 'Tina' in the film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, recently revealed that she still wonders how she was able to groove to the iconic song, Koi Mil Gaya in the film. On April 16, 2023, Rani Mukerji graced an award show along with her co-star, Kajol and talked about the same. Reflecting on the short dress that Rani Mukerji had worn in the song and grooved so well, Kajol expressed:
“When I saw her in that, I thought, ‘It doesn’t look like she can move anything, how is she going to do that!’ But she was brilliant, flawless and so very graceful."
Adding to Kajol's statement, Rani Mukerji revealed that she herself doesn't know how she managed to ace her performance in the iconic song. Sharing that she was only 17 years old back then, the actress stated that she hadn’t worn such a short skirt ever in her life and recalled how her dress kept getting shorter and shorter till it reached the set. She said:
“The honest answer is I don’t know it myself. I just went with the flow. I was only 17 years old, and till such time, I hadn’t worn such a short skirt ever in my life. So when Karan and Manish Malhotra presented the outfit to me, it was a gown, which kept getting shorter and shorter till it reached the set. When the outfit was taken to the cameramen, he looked at it and said, ‘Oh is this for baby Sana', and they were like, ‘No it is actually for Rani’ so he got a fright!”

Even though Rani was ‘petrified’ after seeing the short outfit, she revealed how Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar and others made her feel comfortable. She stated that performing on the top of that platform in the short dress was a nightmare for her, but when she saw herself on the stage, she felt unbelievable. She was quoted as saying:
“I had Shah Rukh, Kajol di, Karan and Farah, who were choreographing the song. There was a lot of support I got from the team, especially from Karan, he made me feel very confident. I was petrified walking on top of that platform because all the boys and girls were below, looking up, so that was quite a nightmare for me. When I saw myself on screen, I was also shocked.”
Apart from being a stunning actress, Rani Mukerji is a perfect family woman. She is a loving wifey to her director-husband, Aditya Chopra and a doting mother to their daughter, Adira Chopra. For the unversed, the couple welcomed their baby girl in 2015. Moreover, both Rani and Aditya are extremely private person who prefers keeping their little munchkin away from the limelight. While Rani is often spotted running errands in the city or gracing events, she ensures to keep her daughter away from public attention.
On the professional front, Rani Mukerji was recently seen in the film, Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway.
