Popular Bollywood actress, Rani Mukerji once shared the reason behind not having a huge family. Although, she expressed her wish to have a second child.
Rani Mukerji is one of Bollywood's actresses who continues to entertain the audience with her versatile, power-packed performances. In an interview with a leading daily in 2017, Rani opened up about embracing motherhood for the second time when she was 39. The actress mentioned that she could not have a huge family as she had “missed the bus” a long time ago, but she expressed her wish to try for a second child. In her words:

Rani Mukerji embraced motherhood for the second time during the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, she miscarried her baby five months into her pregnancy. While speaking at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2023, the actress, for the very first time, talked about this unfortunate incident and said that she did not share this painful experience with the world as she felt that speaking about it would make her look like she tried to propel her film. In her words:
“Maybe this is the first time I am making this revelation because, in today’s world, every aspect of your life is discussed publicly, and becomes an agenda for talking about your film to get more eyeballs. Obviously, I didn’t speak about this when I was promoting the film because it would have come across as me trying to speak about a personal experience that would propel the film…so, it was around the year when COVID-19 struck. It was 2020. I got pregnant with my second baby at the end of 2020, and I unfortunately lost my baby five months into my pregnancy.”

Further in the conversation, Rani recalled how she received the script for Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway, ten days after she miscarried her second child. The actress said that she received a call from the producer, Nikkhil Advani, who narrated the story to Rani, and she immediately connected with the story. Talking about the same, Rani said:
“After I lost my baby, Nikkhil (Advani) would have called me probably 10 days later. He told me about the story, and I kind of immediately… not that I had to have the loss of a child to feel the emotion, but sometimes there is a film at the right time of what you are going through personally to be able for you to connect with it instantly.”
On March 21, 2024, Rani Mukerji turned 46. In an interview with India Today, the Bollywood actress revealed the sole reason she used to miss celebrating her birthdays during her childhood. Rani blamed her final exams for the same and recalled being miserable as she could never celebrate her birthday with friends. In her words:
“I love celebrating my birthday. For some odd reason, we always had exams during my birthday – and that too, final exams. And I used to feel miserable because I was never able to celebrate with my friends.”
