Rani Mukerji recalls facing a bitter experience when she was a newcomer in the film industry, and mentioned how she was once asked to get her voice dubbed by someone else.
Rani Mukerji is one of the most beautiful divas in the Hindi film industry. She is known for her versatile acting mettle, that promises to bring forth a totally new experience for the audience every time. Daughter of eminent filmmaker, Ram Mukherjee and wife of producer giant, Aditya Chopra, Rani commands a huge fan base and is loved by all. Recently, while attending the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, Rani recollected a distinct memory of her journey as an actress when she was barely a newcomer back then.
Apart from her gorgeous beauty and charming personality, Rani Mukerji is also recognised for her sexy yet husky voice, that has won hearts over decades. However, there was once a time when this rare tonal quality of hers became a barrier for her acting mettle. Well, during her presence at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, Rani recalled how her Ghulam co-star, Aamir Khan dissuaded her to dub her voice in the film, and asked her to let someone else do it for her. Rani mentioned:
“At the peak of my career, in the film Ghulam, they dubbed my voice because I was a newcomer, it was my second movie. Aamir, Mukesh Bhatt, and Vikram Bhatt were not sure of my voice, and They collectively took the decision to dub my voice because they thought that mainstream actresses should have a shrill voice. They did not believe that women need to have a voice like me, which is ‘sexy and very empowering.”

Moving forward in her revelation, Rani highlighted how Aamir Khan directly approached her with the decision to not use her own voice for the dubbing part in the film and even took reference of the legendary diva, Sridevi to exemplify that letting others dub someone’s part was nothing unusual. In her words:
“He started the conversation and said ‘we should do what is best for the film and we know that actresses like Sridevi ji’s voice has been dubbed for so many years and they are popular. We all collectively feel that your voice is not suited for Alisha’s part. But because I was a newcomer, I could not say anything. I was actually very sad at that time because I felt the voice of a person is her true identity. Till today, I do feel sometimes a bit not connected to Ghulam completely because it is not my voice.”
In yet another of her recent revelations at the IFFM 2023, Rani Mukerji made probably the most shocking yet unheard revelation about her personal life. The diva stunned everyone when she mentioned that she was expecting her second child in 2020, but unfortunately suffered a miscarriage in her fifth month of pregnancy. Moreover, she added that soon after such a tragic incident, she got roped into the shooting of her film, Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway and thus she could not share this news with anyone, since it would have gotten tagged as a publicity stunt.

While Rani happens to be quite an outspoken, bubbly woman by nature, her husband, Aditya Chopra is her polar opposite, who chooses to live his low-key and seldom makes any media appearance. However, in one of her earlier interactions at The Kapil Sharma Show, Rani recalled a hilarious anecdote about Aditya, and mentioned that the latter does not want the actress to touch his belongings, since he is too organised.
