Dimple Kapadia's sister, Simple, was madly in love with the iconic villainous actor, Ranjeet. But her 'jiju', Rajesh Khanna, was against their love story and here's how he reportedly ended it.
Ranjeet was born on September 12, 1941, into an orthodox Sikh family as Gopal Singh Bedi, in Jandiala Guru (present-day in Amritsar). Before becoming an actor in the Hindi film industry, he wanted to join the Indian Air Force and even cleared the IAF entrance exam. However, he was reportedly discharged from the IAF after he indulged in a rough spat with one of the instructors at the esteemed institution. Once, in an old interview with a publication, Ranjeet revealed that he was discharged from IAF after an instructor thought he was trying to woo his daughter.
After departing from IAF, Ranjeet continued playing football, which he was quite good at and started taking it forward as a career. However, one fine day, he met with one of his father, Dwarakaprasad Bedi's friends, Ranvir Singh, aka Ronny, who offered him a chance to work in Hindi cinema. Ronny offered him a part in the film, Zindagi Ki Raahein, but unfortunately, the film was shelved in the following years. After he met with Ronny in Mumbai, Ranjeet crossed paths with Sunil Dutt, who gave him a role in the film, Reshma Aur Shera.
Days after getting a role in Sunil Dutt's Reshma Aur Shera, Mohan Saigal met with Ranjeet and handed him his debut film, Sawan Bhadon, in Hindi cinema. Ranjeet turned heads and impressed critics with his negative character, 'Kundan' in Samir Ganguly's film, Sharmeelee. After this, he featured in a series of hit films that cemented his status as one of the most loved villainous actors in Hindi cinema. Some of Ranjeet's iconic films include the likes of Karan Arjun, Hulchul, Koyla, Aakrosh, Bulandi, Daku Sultan, Krantiveer, Housefull 2, Welcome Back, Behen Hogi Teri, Housefull 3, and more.
Ranjeet was so good at playing negative roles that there came a point in his career when people started fearing him in real life. The veteran actor had recalled a series of incidents where people were left shocked after meeting him in person. The actor explained that a lot of people had the myth that he was creepy and an abuser in real life, too, courtesy of the roles he played most of the time on the big screen. However, there was one actress, who was not only his fan but was madly in love with Ranjeet.
