During a candid conversation, Ratna Pathak gave a befitting reply to those who age-shamed her. In addition, she talked about the beauty standards in the entertainment industry.
Ratna Pathak is one of the most versatile actresses of her time, and she is still now working in one after the other films and serials. But her performance in the hit TV serial, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai as Indu Sarabhai's wife, 'Maya', has etched a special place in millions of hearts. Afterwards, Ratna was seen in several films, including Mirch Masala, The Perfect Murder, Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na, Golmaal 3 and many others. However, the 66-year-old actress was also age-shammed many a time. Now, she addressed the same in an interview and gave a befitting reply to those trollers.
In a recent interview with Twinkle Khanna on her chat show, The Icons, Ratna Pathak opened up about her thoughts on certain beauty standards in the film industry. She mentioned how the actress is getting more success at this stage of life than before. However, Ratna also revealed her wrong notion that actresses can only work until they are young. Elaborating how she got motivated by seeing many other actresses working at an old age, Ratna said:
“For some reason, that was stuck in my head, that as a women, you act until you’re young and pretty. But then I looked around me and I saw so many female actors who were working well into their old age.”

In the same conversation, Ratna mentioned how according to her physical appearance is not more important than the real talents. Further, talking about the industry's beauty standards, she revealed pity for the young actresses who prioritise outer appearance over pure acting skills. However, despite ageing, Ratna expressed her desire to act throughout her life as she believes that she is capable of giving good performance onscreen.
Ratna also revealed her worries about physical health and whether that would affect her acting career. Then, she was asked about the trolls which actresses used to face. To this, she gave a befitting reply to those who called her “Arre bechari buddhi”, and added:
“Beta, tum bhi aa jaoge. Thoda sa rukh jao. Tum bhi aa jaoge issi line pe.”

Ratna Pathak, daughter of Dina Pathak and sister of Supriya Pathak, is married to the versatile actor, Naseeruddin Shah. For the unversed, Ratna met Naseeruddin while shooting for a play. During that time, she was in her college days, and he was a graduate student but studying at the Film Institute. Naseeruddin revealed in many interviews that it was love at first sight for him. Gradually, Ratna too, fell head over heels for him. But as Naseer was already married and didn't get divorced, they had decided to live in for seven years. In 1982, they got married, and were blessed with two sons, Vivaan Shah and Imaad Shah.
