Ravi Kishan remembered his days of poverty, when he had to eat 'vada pav' for 15 years, and also had to share a plate of watered 'khichdi' with 12 people.
Ravi Kishan is on cloud nine after his movie, Laapataa Ladies and his series, Maamla Legal Hai received a lot of love from his fans. The actor recently, in an interview, revealed that he has come from an extremely poor home. He had no shame in opening up about his days of struggle and remembered staying in a mud home and had to share a plate of khichdi with 12 people. Ravi revealed that poverty has been ingrained in him to the extent that his middle-class habits do not allow him to order luxuriously at a restaurant. During his days of struggle, for 15 years he survived on tea and vada pav.
During a conversation with Shubhankar Mishra for his YouTube channel, Ravi revealed that he had to crawl out to get out of his extremely poor condition. His condition was so poor that even when he shifted to Mumbai he had to eat vada pav and tea for 15 years as he had not got a respectful income. Ravi remembered:
"I used to live in a hut made of mud. We had responsibilities, our farm land was mortgaged. I have seen excessive poverty. The kind where one khichdi is shared by 12 people, and that too, after watering it down. I have faced extreme humiliation. People get humiliated a couple of times, I have faced it thousands of times."
The actor, going ahead in the interview, revealed that with the name Shukla, he was unable to find work, and for him, making money was of utmost importance. He did not think twice before making the decision and also noted that now surnames like Shukla and Bajpayee have become common. It was not the same when he was a struggling actor, back at that time. However, with time, Ravi understood that his surname did not hold importance as his main goal was to find good work.
Ravi also revealed his peculiar habit of ordering khichdi when he goes into a 7-star hotel and he does not like to give his clothes for laundry but wash them at home. Poverty has been a part of the actor and the lower class mentality has never got rid of him. He always encourages his family to spend on themselves and is happy when he pays for their luxurious items.
Earlier, in the same interview, the actor had confessed that someone had told Anurag Kashyap that Ravi used to bathe in milk. The actor, confirmed the same and had said:
"I used to bathe in milk. I used to enjoy it. Somebody told this to Anurag Kashyap. I am an eccentric, that’s why I’m an artist. If I was a normal person, I would be working in an office, carrying a tiffin box to work. Anurag said that he didn’t have the budget for my demands, and that’s why I lost the film. Somebody spread some other rumours about me as well. Everyone in that movie broke out afterwards.”
