Throwback interview of Rekha talking about her drinking habits, taking drugs and lusting like hell.
Born as Bhanurekha to the renowned actor, Gemini Ganesan and actress, Pushpavalli, Rekha is one of the most gorgeous actresses of Bollywood to date. Rekha entered cinema at the mere age of 13 due to financial constraints at her home. After doing small roles in South Indian films, Rekha made her Bollywood debut in the film, Sawan Bhadon in 1970. However, after a series of unsuccessful films, Rekha rose to fame with films like Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Khubsoorat and Umrao Jaan.
While Rekha had a tremendous career in Bollywood with some blockbuster films to her credit, her personal life too had garnered a lot of limelight because of her alleged affairs and linkups. From her complicated marriage to businessman, Mukesh Agarwal, flings with Jeetendra, Kiran Kumar, Vinod Mehra, Sanjay Dutt, and Akshay Kumar and a scintillating affair with the already married, Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha’s love life has always been in the headlines.

Rekha has been quite open about many aspects of her life and had never shied away from talking about the same. In a throwback interview with Simi Garewal, the diva talked about her drinking binges and doing drugs. During one of the segments of the interview, when Simi asked Rekha how no one had ever heard about Rekha’s drinking habits, the Silsila actress stated:
“Of course, I’ve been drinking binges. Of course, I’ve been on drugs. I’ve been very impure. I’ve been lusting like hell. Ask me with what? With life. Gotcha!”
Out of all of Rekha’s linkups, her affair with Amitabh Bachchan has always been a hot topic of discussion in the glamour world. Speculations about Rekha and Amitabh’s affair had started on the sets of the film, Do Anjane, and it was one of the most controversial affairs of that time. It is even said that Yash Chopra’s film, Silsila was literally the on-screen portrayal of Amitabh, Jaya and Rekha’s love triangle.

In an explosive 1984 throwback interview with Filmfare, Rekha, at length, had spoken about Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan and relationships. She had revealed,
“Why should he have not done it? He did it to protect his image, to protect his family, to protect his children. I think it is beautiful, I don’t care what the public thinks of it. Why should the public know of my love for him or his love for me? I love him, he loves me – that’s it! I don’t care what anybody thinks. If he’d reacted that way towards me in private, I would have been very disappointed. But has he ever done that? I ask you. So why should I care about what he’s said in public? I know people must be saying bechari Rekha, pagal hai us par, phir bhi dekho. Maybe I deserve that pity. Not that he has 10 rollicking affairs! Mr Bachchan is still old-fashioned. He doesn’t want to hurt anybody, so why hurt his wife?”
Be it her troubled relationship with her father, Gemini Ganesan, her alleged affairs, her explosive interviews or flaunting her sindoor-smeared maang, Rekha has always been a controversial celeb.
