It was Renee’s school friend, Kabeer Khurana, who directed the short film and during a normal catch-up chat, he had offered her the script and asked her to audition. Then Renee asked her mom if she should do it, and pat came a positive reply from Sushmita, who told her to go ahead if this is what she wants to do it. “Not flesh of my flesh, nor bone of my bone, but still miraculously my own. Never forget for a single minute, you didn’t grow under my heart but in it.” - Fleur Conkling Heyliger. That’s what Sushmita Sen had always said that though she is not the biological mother of her daughters, Renee Sen and Alisah Sen, she had given them birth from her heart. Did you know Sushmita had told her eldest daughter, Renee when she was 16 that after she turns 18, she can go to court to see the envelope which explains the names of her biological parents and go seek them out if she chooses to? Before we share what Sushmita had said on the same lines, let us tell you why Renee doesn’t want to know her biological parents.
Renee Sen believes that ‘adopted’ and ‘biological’ are merely terms as she has never felt the difference and her mother, Sushmita Sen is ‘everything’ to her. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Renee spoke about the purest form of love for her and was quoted as saying, “I have seen love in its purest form. This difference between adopted and biological... There is no difference for me, it is only a term. I don't feel a difference.” Expressing her desire to adopt someday, Renee continued, “Of course I want to adopt. To me, adoption and biology are no different. It is just a term that people have given.”
On being asked why she chose not to know about her biological parents, Renee Sen retorted, “I don't feel the need to. She (Sushmita) is my everything. I also understand that my 'biological’ parents may have had some circumstances or whatever but that is history. This is my family. This is who I am. Why should I kick all my blessings in the face? It does not make sense to me. I mean no disrespect to anybody who does want to know. By all means, please, if it makes you happy. But it does not make me happy." In a 2019 interview with Rajeev Masand, Sushmita Sen had revealed her daughter, Renee Sen’s reaction when she offered to help her find out about her biological parents after she turns 18. Sushmita had remarked, “I told her that we don't know if they have a biological parents name in there right but there is information in that envelope which is only rightfully yours after you turn 18, right, so I didn't want to give her the wrong information because I don't want her to go there and get her heart broken because they don't have that information about a lot of kids. But I told her 'I'll take you whenever you're ready we must go' and we get it so she said ‘but why do you want me to go find out’, so I said, ‘I am saying you have a right, now that you are an adult to go if you want to go, I'll take you.' So, she gave it a bit like a moment's pause and said, 'Honestly, no I don't want to find out.' I told her, ‘If you do let me know.’ I didn't tell her that at 18 actually, I told her that on her 16th birthday huh that now in two years this will come up right, so you can get excited if you want to know and all of that.; By the time she was 18, she was looking at me like 'what's your problem, why do you want to do all these things, I don't want to know’.”
