The sweet and charming Hyderabadi princess of Bollywood, Dia Mirza married her long-time beau and filmmaker Sahil Sangha in Delhi. This quintessential couple had to postpone their wedding twice owing to ill health of their family members, and it was finally destined to happen on October 18, 2014.

Love is above all

The pristine beauty Dia Mirza was born in the princely state of Hyderabad. Her father was German while her mother is Bengali. Her parents separated when she was just four. However, she uses the last name of her step-father, Ahmed Mirza. Adding to the diversity in her life, Sahil Sangha lives in Delhi and is a Sikh by religion. With completely dissimilar upbringings and diverse faiths, they are the epitome of a love which knows no boundaries.

And when it came to wedding, the couple chose to opt for the simplistic but authentic Arya Samaj rituals and ceremony. Dia Mirza was quoted as saying:

“I am very happy. It was a beautiful Arya Samaj ceremony. The vows were explained to us. It was wonderful because it was good to be conscious of what you are going through, and what are the vows you are exchanging. It was a dream wedding.”

The love story of Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha

Dia is one of the most beautiful actresses that Bollywood has ever had, and anyone can fall in love with her innocent charm. Sahil Sangha said in one interview:

“What I love the most about her is that in one word, she is pure. She is very giving and all heart, which is also a problem as then you need to take care of your heart. She lights up a room as soon as she walks in.”

The two first met when Sahil went to Dia’s house for narrating the script of a film. Although they knew each other since 2009, but Sahil proposed Dia in 2014 when they were in New York to attend an award function. He went on his knees and presented the ring to her in the middle of the Brooklyn Bridge. Dia accepted this heart-warming proposal, and the couple was applauded with cheers by all tourists present there.

The grand wedding carnival

The couple had a four-day long celebration, where they had a lot of pre-wedding as well as wedding functions. All the events took place at a Delhi farmhouse.

Mehendi ceremony

Dia sported a beautiful sunshine anarkali designed by the ace designer Ritu Kumar on her mehendi function. The yellow anarkali was perfectly matched by a fuchsia dupatta with beautiful motifs and gota patti. Sahil looked no less with a contrast maroon outfit.

Together, they shined through the ceremony. While Dia happily posed for the cameras with her mehendi clad hands, she was quick to quote that:

“Even my mehendi is not the typical heavy look, it is just a simple small design. That is because I am a very unconventional bride.”

This ceremony was attended by only a few close friends and relatives.

The star-studded sangeet

Sahil and Dia had a lavish sangeet ceremony. The venue was decked up with beautiful rajnigandha flowers. Dia specially performed on the songs Aao Huzoor and Bole Chudiyan, for Sahil.

She looked resplendent in a bright purple and golden lehenga designed by Anita Dongre, and adorned a complete traditional look by wearing kundan jewellery. Sahil also rocked in the ceremony, and looked dashing in a black bandhgala coat. The couple looked perfectly made for each other as they posed for the camera.

The wedding ceremony

On her wedding day, Dia looked every bit of a marvellous diva. She looked stunning in the sharara designed by Ritu Kumar, which was paired with a long golden jacket. Sahil looked dapper in an off-white achkan designed by Raghavendra Rathore.

The wedding ceremony was attended by Sushmita Sen, Lara Dutta, Raju Hirani, Sophie Choudhury, Zayed Khan, Cyrus Sahukar and Aditi Rao Hydari. However, Boman Irani, who was expected to do the kanyadaan could not attend the ceremony.

The post-wedding function

At the reception ceremony, Dia looked like a princess in her peach and golden lehenga, designed by Shantanu and Nikhil. Even the décor matched well with her outfit. She looked all the more ravishing with matching diamond and emerald jewellery.

The designer duo was pleased with her look and they tweeted:

“Couldn’t believe how a princess from a fairy tale could be brought to life. @deespeak did just that. We love you.”

Post-marriage first Diwali celebrations

Sahil and Dia decided to postpone their honeymoon for celebrating their first Diwali with family and friends.

Dia was glowing as a newlywed bride on the eve of Diwali. She looked beautiful in a white Sabyasachi outfit. She tweeted,

“First Diwali after marriage :) filled with love and light!!! #Blessed #Grateful #Family Time.”
