April 30, 2020, will always be remembered as a day when Bollywood had lost one of its shiniest stars, Rishi Kapoor. It has been 15 days since the actor had left for his heavenly abode, but we still can’t come in terms with the huge loss. With nearly 50 years of active career, Rishi Kapoor always believed in staying honest to one’s craft. Born in the family of stars, Rishi ji was born to act. Movies like, Bobby, Karz, and Chandini had got him the tag of a romantic hero, and he had become every girl’s dream man through his effortless performances. Just like a stupendous actor, he was a loving father too. Like every father, he had shared a warm bond with his daughter, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni.
Riddhima Kapoor is coping with the loss of her late father and is being a pillar of support for her mother, Neetu Kapoor. Riddhima, who couldn’t attend her father’s last rites due to lockdown is in Mumbai with her mother, Neetu and brother, Ranbir. On May 14, 2020, Riddhima took to her Instagram stories and shared an unseen family picture. In the picture, we can see Riddhima happily posing with her late father, Rishi Kapoor. Neetu Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Riddhima’s daughter, Samara Sahni were also seen in the picture. Atop the picture, Riddhima wrote, “We are family.”
On May 03, 2020, Riddhima Kapoor had taken to her Instagram stories and had shared two unseen pictures of her late father, Rishi Kapoor. The first story had a picture of her late grandmother, Krishna Raj Kapoor with her ‘papa’ Rishi Kapoor with a heart emoticon atop it. The other story was a throwback family picture of the times when Riddhima and Ranbir Kapoor were kids, with young Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor. Though Riddhima Kapoor couldn’t attend her father’s funeral, she had penned an emotional eulogy for her papa. She had taken to her Instagram handle and had shared a selfie with Rishi ji and had written, “Papa I love you I will always love you - RIP my strongest warrior I will miss you everyday I will miss your FaceTime calls everyday! I wish I could be there to say goodbye to you! Until we meet again papa I love you - your Mushk forever.” Riddhima had also posted an Insta story while travelling from Delhi to Mumbai, and had written, “Driving home ma. Enroute to Mumbai.”
After Rishi ji’s death, his wife, Neetu Kapoor had posted a family statement on her Instagram handle. She had revealed how Rishi ji was jovial throughout the two years of his treatment. Her note could be read as “Our dear Rishi Kapoor passed away peacefully at 8:45 am IST in hospital today after a two-year battle with leukemia. The doctors and medical staff at the hospital said he kept them entertained to the last. He remained jovial and determined to live to the fullest right through two years of treatment across two continents. Family, friends, food and films remained his focus and everyone who met him during this time was amazed at how he did not let his illness get the better of him.”
The statement had concluded with “He was grateful for the love of his fans that poured in from the world over. In his passing, they would all understand that he would like to be remembered with a smile and not with tears. In this hour of personal loss, we also recognise the world is going through a very difficult and troubled time. There are numerous restrictions around movement and gathering in public. We would like to request all his fans and well-wishers and friends of the family to please respect the laws that are in force. He would not have it any other way."
