We always have the assurance that our parents are there for us no matter what but Riteish Deshmukh’s entire world shattered when his father had passed away on August 14, 2012 after battling with liver cancer. Vilasrao ji’s untimely death had created a huge vacuum in Riteish's life and it was his wife, Genelia Deshmukh, who stood by him like a pillar of strength. Genelia is not just a doting wife or daughter but an ideal daughter-in-law too. From standing with tears in her eyes during her father-in-law, Vilasrao Deshmukh’s remembrance ceremony to thanking her mother-in-law, Vaishali Deshmukh, for supporting her throughout, she has always been there with her family.
On May 26, 2020, Genelia Deshmukh took to her Instagram handle and shared a picture of herself with folded hands in front of her late father-in-law, Vilasrao Deshmukh’s statue to mark his 75th birth anniversary. Along with the picture, she wrote an emotional birthday wish for him which can be read as “Riaan’s teacher asked him “What are you most proud of.” His answer was. “My Ajoba... His note could be read as “Those we love don’t go away... They walk beside us everyday... Unseen, Unheard but still Always near…Happy Birthday Pappa. In a 2013 interview with the DNA, Ritiesh Deshmukh had talked about coping up with the huge loss of his father’s death. He had shared, "I don’t know how to answer that. It’s an irreparable loss. You can’t compare it to anything. It’s really strange that suddenly a person is not there in your life and then you realise — I won’t say value because as a child you always value your parents — how life will never be the same again. There is a huge void. Sometimes I still feel he is there."
In the same interview, Ritiesh had revealed how Genelia was his pillar of support in that horrible time. He had stated, "Genelia. Not because I am married to her. That is irrespective but eventually, she is my strength, my support. To have someone who understands when you like to talk, and when you don’t, is incredible. I don’t like to talk about. I don’t talk. So even for her to sit next to me and share that silence was helpful. I value the silences more than the chats."
