Rohit Sharma recently graced 'The Great Indian Kapil Show' and expressed his heartfelt feelings on losing the 2023 World Cup. He shared how people reacted after the loss.
Kapil Sharma, the comedian-turned-actor, is back on our screens to tickle our funny bones with his new Netflix series, The Great Indian Kapil Show (TGIKS). The first episode aired on March 30, 2024, and featured Neetu Kapoor with her children, Ranbir and Riddhima Sahni. On April 6, 2024, the second episode was released on the streaming platform, and it featured the acclaimed cricketers, Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer. Rohit, who has been in the headlines ever since he was removed from the Mumbai Indians' (MI) captaincy, opened up about losing the 2023 ICC World Cup to the Australian side.
During the show, Kapil heaped praises on the two acclaimed cricketers of the Indian men’s team and even Rohit and Shreyas shared some unheard anecdotes from their lives. While conversing, the comedian talked about the splendid performance of the Indian team in the last World Cup and asked what was going on in the Indian skipper’s mind after the title slipped away from their hands. To this, Rohit said:
“Yeh kehna bada muskil he kyuki match ke pehle hum do din Ahmedabad mein the, hum practice kiye. Ek achcha momentum team ka bana hua tha. Bolte hain jaise ki autopilot mein team chal rahi thi. Jab final match start hua, humne shuruat achchi ki.”

Further, Rohit Sharma mentioned that the Australian side played well. Meanwhile, the Indian team tried to put up a huge score as it is believed that if the batting side scores well in important matches, then there’s automatic pressure on the chasing side. Sharing that Shubman Gill was out quite fast, and Virat and he had a good partnership, the Indian skipper added:
“I think Shubman Gill jaldi out ho gaya tha. But uske baad Virat aur mera thoda saa ek partnership ho gaya tha. Toh confidence tha ki hum achcha score khada kar sakenge. Par final mein jab ap khelte ho, bade matches mein… run laga doge board pe toh samne waalo ke upar pressure hogi. Chahe ho 100 run kyu na ho! Kyuki unko banana he woh run. Aur pressure mein koi bhi team fisal sakti hein! But unhone achcha cricket khela, Australia ne… unka bada partnership bhi ho agya tha.”

The audience, who was present at the show gave them a big round of applause. After this, Rohit spoke about how he was received with love everywhere even after losing the title. Revealing his feelings, Rohit said:
“Ye actually sahi baat hai jo, main bhi yahi soch raha tha ki hamari country mein World Cup hua hai aur hum World Cup jeet nahi paaye. Toh mujhe aisa feeling tha ki shayad kaafi narazgi rahegi country mein. But jahan par bhi main gaya World Cup final ke baad mujhe logon se bas yahi sunne mila ki kitne acche tareeke se humne cricket khela aur wo cricket dekhne mein sabko mazaa aaya.”
Rohit Sharma’s wife, Ritika Sajdeh was also present on the show. Kapil, who is known for his witty remarks and comic timing, asked the cricketer’s wife if it has been difficult to handle Rohit as the captain or as a husband. For those who don’t know, Ritika is Rohit’s manager. To Kapil’s question, Ritika instantly replied that Rohit is harder to manage as a husband.
