BJP leader, Roopa Ganguly was arrested on October 3, 2024, by Kolkata police fo protective over school boy's death.
Famous veteran actress-turned-politician, Roopa Ganguly has been arrested in shocking turn of events. For the unversed, Roopa Ganguly is known for her role as 'Draupadi' in the cult television series, Mahabharat directed by Ramanand Sagar. However, the actress, who is known for portraying a clean image, found herself neck-deep in a controversy after being arrested by Kolkata Police.
Talking about the incident, Roopa Ganguly was sitting on a peaceful protest outside the Bansdroni Police Station, after a school body died. An excavator hit the fourteen-year-old child in Kolkata's Bansdroni. Sharing her side of the story, Roopa revealed that she wasn't troubling or hindering anyone's work. She just wanted that the murderes of the boy should be caught.
On the other hand, Kolkata Police Commissioner, Manoj Kumar Verma revealed that Roopa Ganguly was arrest after she sat on dharna. He revealed that Roopa Ganguly claimed that the police released the arrested people without any conditions.
They added that she was asked to stop her protest but she didn't listen to the repeated request. Hence a case was registered against her. The police personnel said:
"We told her that it is not possible and there will be a legal action against them. So, if anyone has any issues they can approach the court for relief. She sat on a dharna and did not move from there despite repeated requests, hence obstructing the function of the Police Station. So, a case was registered against her too. She was arrested and produced before court."
Roopa Ganguly tasted immense fame after her stint in the 1980s as she was cast in the role of 'Draupadi' in the famous serial Mahabharat. Her portrayal of the famous queen, who was wronged by Kauravas was beautifully depicted on the small screen. In fact, it was her 'cheer-haran' scene that is still etched in the hearts of her fans. Roopa even won Smita Patil's Memorial Award for her perfromance.
While she rose to immense fame, she kept her personal life away from media light. Not many know that Roopa's personal life wasn't a rosy one like her career in entertainment world. She was married to a mechanical engineer, Dhrubo Mukherjee, in 1992. In 1997, they welcomed a son, but their marriage hit a rough patch, and in 2007, they parted ways.
Roopa then found solace in a Bengali singer, Dbiyendu Mukherjee, but the relationship could not last long, and they parted ways.
