As Sharmila Tagore turned 76, her daughter, Saba Ali Khan posted a wish for her beautiful amma. Exuding royalty in their traditional looks, the mother-daughter duo was all smiles for the camera.
Born in Hyderabad into the prominent Tagore family of Calcutta, 14-year-old Sharmila Tagore had made her debut in the film industry with the Bengali movie, Apur Sansar (The World of Apu) in 1959. Sharmila entered the Hindi film industry with Kashmir Ki Kali in 1964, and in no time, she had created a niche for herself in Hindi and Bengali cinema. In the ‘60s, Sharmila had created a stir when she became the first Indian actress to pose in a bikini for a magazine cover. From being the sex symbol of yesteryears to delivering power-packed performances in iconic movies, Sharmila exuded confidence like no other in the film industry and even today, her charm and royalty is unmatched! A proud mother of three wonderful children, Saif Ali Khan, Saba Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan, a loving mother-in-law to Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kunal Kemmu, and a doting grandmother of five four adorable grandchildren, Sara Ali Khan, Ibrahim Ali Khan, Taimur Ali Khan, Inaaya Naumi Kemmu and one on its way (Saif and his wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan are expecting their second child in 2021), Sharmila Tagore leaves no chance to express her admiration for her lovely family. When Sharmila had turned 75 in 2019, the entire Pataudi clan come together to celebrate the special day and had planned a getaway to Ranthambore.
As Sharmila Tagore turned 76 in 2020, her eldest daughter, Saba Ali Khan posted a wish for her beautiful mother. Sharing her favourite memory with her mother, Sharmila, Saba posted a picture of the magazine cover in which they had posed together. Exuding royalty in their traditional looks, the mother-daughter duo was all smiles for the camera. Saba captioned the post as “HAaPpY Birthday... My favourite memory of us! Lots of love...” Saba also posted an IG story with a collage of Sharmila’s pictures and added a ‘Happy Birthday’ sticker on it.
In a throwback interview with the DNA, Sharmila Tagore had spoken about how she was busy after embracing motherhood for the first time but was comparatively more available after Saba Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan were born. Recalling how she wasn’t there for Saif Ali Khan as much as she was there for Saba and Soha, Sharmila had said, “I wasn’t there as much for Saif as I was for Soha and Saba as I wasn’t working so much then. I was very busy during Saif’s time and when he was growing up. I was doing double shifts, but I did have the support of my husband and also my neighbour Sunita Goswami, who also happened to be teaching at Saif’s Bohri-run school Saifee Mahal, which was a wonderful school run by Mrs Noorani. She was Saif’s second mother and she and her husband Jatin looked after him a lot. I was there for all his milestones, but I really wasn’t there for his day-to-day work.” She had continued, “When the girls were born, I was less busy.” (Also Read: Saba Ali Khan Shares That Her Niece, Inaaya Is An Artist Just Like Her, Posts An Adorable Picture)
When asked, “Between Saif, Saba and Soha, who shares your personality traits the most?” Sharmila Tagore had retorted, “I think Saif does, Soha is more like her dad Tiger and Saba is a mixture of both of us. Saif and I are little bit more impulsive and less practical. He likes his freedom. As a child, he was more mischievous, Soha was more studious and practical, while Saba is the most creative one.”
Last year, for Sharmila Tagore’s 75th birthday celebrations, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Kemmu along with their little prince and princess, Taimur Ali Khan and Inaaya Naumi Kemmu, had headed off to Ranthambore, Rajasthan.
