The fashion industry is absolutely brutal. You might think that Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion exaggerated things a bit, but I assure you that this is not the case. Of course, the travails that models go through to walk down the runway – everything from eating disorders to the casting couch – are definitely more glamourous than the struggles that a designer has to undergo, but that does not mean that fashion designers have it easy.
Sabyasachi Mukherjee is someone who has literally risen to the top through sheer talent and loads of unmitigated hard work. No one can doubt that his dedication to his work has produced some of the most creative designs on the Indian fashion scene.
Sabyasachi has been called a lot of things, but unimaginative is not one of them. His unique designs have helped him to win the patronage of many style icons – in fact, when Sakshi married Mahendra Dhoni, she wore one of Sabyasachi’s creations. After all, which woman does not want to stand apart from the crowd on her wedding day?
As far as his 2011 collection is concerned, Sabyasachi has mixed his trademark bold style with a good cause – Save the Tigers. Bohemian chic is not a look that would work for most bridal collections, but Sabyasachi manages to pull it off. His use of traditional fabrics and embroidery to deliver the most modern and up to date looks is something that most brides to be will go gaga over.
I can’t stop drooling over Sabyasachi’s 2011 collection. Take a look at it and let me know if you can.
