Sai Pallavi gets real about the downfall of being extremely particular about the films she does also reflects on the screen time crunch and why she took so long to sign 'Amaran'.
When it comes to art, quality is always preferred over quantity, and Sai Pallavi firmly believes in being vigilant with the roles she picks. Actor Sai Pallavi shot to fame with Alphonse Puthran's blockbuster, Premam (2015) with her role as Malar teacher.
Even though the actress has been a part of the industry for over a decade now, she has only acted in thirteen movies so far, which include three languages, Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu. She is set to be seen in director, Rajkumar Periasamy’s Amaran next. However, the actress did not come to make this decision lightly. In an interview with Behindwoods, Sai Pallavi shared that she was unsure about signing the movie.
In conversation with Behindwoods, Kali actress shared that she feels like makers cut off the heroine's bits when it comes to a male-driven movie or biopics. Sai revealed that the makers will adduce the film's length, for their screen time being cut short. Reflecting on this Sai said:
"Most of the time, in biopics or male-driven films, the makers easily cut out the portions of the heroine. They can cite length issues, and go ahead with the same."
Sai Pallavi further shared that she has asked, Amaran director, Rajkumar Periasamy to give her in writing that he will not cut her parts in the movie. The actress asked the director to provide a written document stating that her character would get the deserved screen time. It is only after Rajkumar reassured her that she agreed to do the film. She stated:
"I asked Amaran director Rajkumar to give it to me in writing that he won’t do such things. Of course, I could take that liberty with him, and he assured me that my character of Indhu Rebecca Varghese is as important as Major Mukund Varadarajan’s role in Amaran."
Sai Pallavi even addressed being particular when it comes to her films. The Athiran actress shared that she is aware that her principles can impede the creation of a steady stream of work. But she is okay with that as she would rather have a slow and gradual success than compromise on her beliefs. Sai Pallavi remarked:
"I know that having certain principles with respect to the kind of roles I do, the kind of costumes I wear, and the kind of inputs I bring to the table have not always given me a steady stream of work. I am completely okay with it because I don’t want that kind of growth anyway."
Sai reflected that the actors who eventually stay in the industry are those who choose quality over quantity. Taking on challenging roles is how an actor evolves and how magic is created. Sai shared with the publication:
"Taking on challenging characters helps actors develop a process. It allows the passion to continue. It allows magic to be created. The thing is, ordinary characters can get exhausting after a point. That can create burnout in actors."
