Did Saif Ali Khan's attacker want to kidnap his youngest son, Jeh Baba and demand Rs. 1 crore from the actor's family?
Bollywood actor, Saif Ali Khan was stabbed six times by Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, a Bangladeshi resident, on January 16, 2025. Reportedly, Saif was sleeping in his room when he heard voices from Jeh's room. He got in a scuffle where he was injured and had to undergo surgery to remove a 2-inch broken piece of knife from his spine. The cops have nabbed the accused and are investigating if the accused wanted to kidnap Jeh or demand money from Saif's family.
Mumbai Police are trying their best to understand Shariful Islam Shehzad's motives. They are investigating if he wanted Jeh to be kept hostage and demand ransom money of Rs. 1 crore. He reportedly either wanted to steal from the home, or by keeping Jeh hostage as he wanted to return to Bangladesh reportedly. Earlier reports stated that Jeh's nanny, Eliyamma spotted the accused for the first time. He was walking towards Jeh's bed. Eliyamma said:
“When I tried to see who was there, I saw a person coming out of the bathroom and moving towards Jeh Baba’s (Jehangir’s) bed."
Saif was trying to protect his little son, and amid all of this, he got attacked when he was fighting with the robber. The cops are yet to take the statement of Saif as the actor has not been released from Mumbai's Lilavati hospital.
Another clip shows the cops taking the accused to the Bandra Police station after recreating the crime scene at Saif's Satguru Sharan residence. Reportedly, 19 fingerprints were found when the crime scene was recreated. Police also revealed that Shariful addressed himself as Vijay Das, who hailed from Rajabariya village in Bangladesh's Jhalokathi district. His real name is Shariful Islam Sajjad Mohammed Rohilla Amin Fakir. He used a fake name to enter India illegally.
Mumbai Police have also found that Fakir was staying in Mumbai for the past five months, was doing odd jobs and was also associated with a housekeeping agency. He has been taken into the police custody immediately after being arrested. After doing the crime, the accused hid in Saif's garden as he was afraid he would be caught. He stayed there for more than 2 hours. A police official told News 18 that the accused was looking for money. However, he could not confirm if he knew Saif was staying on the upper floors of the building. Fakir was arrested on January 19, 2025, three days after the attack on Saif took place. The police official said:
"After he was nabbed by police, Fakir told police that his name was Vijay Das and he was a resident of Kolkata. He, however, failed to provide any document to support his claim. He disclosed his true name and Bangladeshi nationality during interrogation."
