Saif Ali Khan recalled an interesting anecdote from one of his most-loved films, 'Hum Tum' and talked about his co-star, Rani Mukerji.
Saif Ali Khan ruled the silver screens all throughout the '2000s with his chocolate boy looks and romantic portrayals. The then-most desirable actor aced his roles with finesse while he was paired opposite to some of the most talented leading ladies, including Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor and more. Amid all, one of Saif’s much-loved and appreciated films opposite Rani Mukerji was Hum Tum, which was released in 2004. And recently, Saif walked down the memory lane and recalled an interesting anecdote from the same.
In an interview with Times Now, Saif Ali Khan recalled a particular anecdote from the shooting diaries of his film, Hum Tum, opposite Rani Mukerji. Released under the banner of Yash Raj Films, the movie was directed by Kunal Kohli. Speaking about the same, Saif recalled how Aditya Chopra wanted him to do a proper kissing scene with Rani in the film. However, it was the diva who was apprehensive and scared about doing it. The actor then added how the two of them ended up doing the scene, and it was completely awkward. Tagging it as the worst kissing scene in Indian cinema, Saif said:
“It was the worst kiss in the history of cinema. It was very uncomfortable.”

Well, despite all the odds, Hum Tum became a grand hit at the box-office, and it led to both Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji bagging the national award for Best Actor award respectively in 2005. However, despite being bestowed with such glory, Saif Ali Khan was quite hesitant to accept the award. Speaking about it, filmmaker, Kunal Kohli, in one of his earlier interviews with The Indian Express, mentioned how Saif was doubtful about flying down to Delhi from London to receive the award. Adding more, Kunal said:
“We were doing an ad film in Spain. Siddharth was handling the production for me; Saif and I were there. Post that, we went for a holiday. Saif was going to London, when it was announced that he has won the National Award. Saif is like, ‘Should I go?’ I was like, ‘Are you mad, please go!’ He said, ‘I am on a holiday in London. You think they would give me a ticket from London?’ We laughed and said they will give you a ticket from Mumbai to Delhi, not London to Delhi. Then he said, ‘Yes Ammi and Abbu are also saying that I should go.”
For the unversed, Saif Ali Khan was all set to mark his debut opposite Kajol in the film, Bekhudi, which was directed by Rahul Rawail in 1992. Everything was finalised and the two actors even did their profile shoot for the same. However, at the very last minute, Saif Ali Khan was thrown out of the film sets by the filmmaker, Rahul Rawail. It was apparently reported that Saif’s unprofessional and rude behaviour on the sets pissed off the filmmaker, who replaced him with Kamal Sadanah.

Well, such a promising offer didn’t get materialise at the end of the day, since the actor was replaced and wasn’t even informed about it at all. Previously, in an interview with Nilufer Qureshi in 2001, Saif talked about it and said:
“Though Sanjay Bhansali thinks I’m silly, let me make it very clear that I didn’t turn him down. There was a miscommunication between us on the price. Also, let me clarify that I didn’t ask for an obscene sum of money. Without getting back to me and discussing the price, Sanjay closed the chapter. Nobody even told me that the negotiations were off till I called back to find out what was happening.”
