Saif Ali Khan's Attacker, Shariful Islam Files Bail Plea, Calls The Case Against Him To Be 'False'

Saif Ali Khan's attacker, Shariful Islam Shehzad, who was arrested three days after the attack on the actor, has recently filed a plea for bail in the court.

Saif Ali Khan is one of the most famous actors in the country, and the news about the attack on him sent shockwaves across the country. He was stabbed six times amid his altercation with an intruder at his residence and was later hospitalised for immediate treatment. The police took quick action and found CCTV footage from his building that led them to identify and arrest Shariful Islam Shehzad as the accused in this case. Since then, he has been in prison. But recently, there has been a new development in the case as Shariful made a new plea alleging that the case filed against him is 'false'. Here's what happened.

Saif Ali Khan's attacker alleges the case  filed against him is 'untrue'

Every detail related to Saif Ali Khan's stabbing incident made headlines in January and February 2025. After the actor and his family finally recovered from the incident, a new development occurred. According to a report by India Today, the accused, Shariful Islam Shehzad, who is in custody, has filed a new bail application in the Mumbai Sessions Court. Calling the case against him to be untrue, his plea said: 

"The FIR is patently false, and a false case has been registered against him."

Shariful's lawyer also mentioned that he has been cooperating with the authorities in contrast to their earlier claims about his non-cooperation. At the same time, he highlighted that Shariful's bail will have no risk of tampering with any evidence related to the case. Moreover, Shariful's continued detention without any punishment is of no use. In his lawyer's words: 

"The applicant has cooperated with the investigation. Therefore, no useful purpose will be served by detaining him further in custody, save and except pre-trial punishment."

Who is Shariful Islam Shehzad?

As per different media reports, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad hails from Bangladesh. He was arrested within three days of the attack on Saif Ali Khan. Mumbai Police revealed that Shariful had been an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh who worked at a pub in Mumbai. The police arrested him from Hiranandani Estate in Thane as he was about to leave for his native village in Jhalokati district in Bangladesh. Alongside, his father, Mohammed Ruhul Amin, also claimed in an interview with NDTV that his son is innocent and does not match the person shown in the CCTV footage.

Saif Ali Khan was stabbed at his residence in Bandra in the wee hours of January 16, 2025. The actor reportedly tried to tackle an illegal intruder in his youngest son, Jeh's room, which left him with six stab wounds and also injured his son's nanny. He immediately went to the Lilavati hospital and underwent immediate surgeries. The attacker has been caught by the police, who have filed a case against him while Saif was discharged after spending five days in the hospital. Following the incident, Saif and Kareena have decided to keep their kids, Taimur and Jeh, away from the media spotlight and requested that they not click their random photos.
