Recently, Saira Banu came forward to defend her husband and Oscar-winning singer, AR Rahman as his name is being tarnished online. She released a voice note to rubbish the false rumours.
The announcement of Oscar-winning singer and music composer, AR Rahman's divorce from his wife of 29 years, Saira Banu, was one of the most unexpected developments in the entertainment industry in recent history. Rahman, Saira, and their family had requested privacy during this trying time. However, netizens and some sections of the media disregarded their wishes, especially after the singer's bassist, Mohini Dey, announced her separation from her husband, Mark Hartsuch. The unpleasant speculations left a bitter taste in the mouths of everyone involved, with Mohini and Rahman's children, Raheema and Ameen, voicing their disgust via social media. Soon after, Rahmam's lawyer announced that the singer would file a defamation case against anyone slandering his name. Now, Saira Banu has come forward in her ex-husband's defence.
When Mohini De announced her divorce mere hours after AR Rahman broke his separation news, the internet was filled with unsavory gossip about the duo. This was the first time that Rahman's personal life was the subject of such speculations. The singer's ex-wife, Saira Banu has now taken matters into her own hands.
Through a voice note forwarded by her PR, Saira asked people to stop spreading baseless rumours. She also revealed that she is currently in Mumbai for treatment as she has been physically unwell for a while. Saira said:
"That's why I took a break from AR (Rahman). I would request the YouTubers, and Tamil media to not say anything bad against him. He is a gem of a person, the best man in the world. It is just my health. issues that I had to leave Chennai. It wouldn't have been possible with his busy schedule in Chennai."
In her voice note, Saira Banu repeated that AR Rahman is an 'amazing human being,' while requesting people to let him be himself. She expressed her full pain in her ex-husband when she said:
"I trust him with my life. That's how much I love him, and that's how much he does too. I request you to stop false allegations. God bless, and my sincere prayers that we are left alone and given a space."
Interestingly, Saira also asked everyone not to jump the gun. She requested people to wait for her return to Chennai after getting treated, as nothing had been officialised yet. Saira then signed off, saying:
"We have not officially announced anything yet. Stop tarnishing his name, which is absolutely rubbish. He is a gem of a person."
For the unversed, AR Rahman's legal team recently issued a notice to anyone slandering the music master's reputation. It mentioned that while AR Rahman and Saira Banu had received support from fans, other digital platforms and YouTubers had been spreading false narratives based on their imagination. These stories were derogatory and could also be detrimental to Rahman's career.
As per the notice, AR Rahman has demanded the removal of such defamatory content within 24 hours. Failure to do so would result in the singer filing a criminal defamation case under section 356 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, such that the liable would be punished with two years imprisonment. Rahman further instructed his counsel to lodge a defamation suit against anyone who had contributed to such content.
