Sajal Ali chose to face the camera at a very young age. She stepped into the industry with sitcom, Nadaaniyan in 2009 when she was just 15. Although it was just a supporting role, it gave her acting career a head start. Her portrayal of 'Afreen' in Mehmoodabad Ki Malkain was a turning point in her career. This role gained widespread recognition and made her a well-known name in Pakistan.
Over the years, she became the lead face for many popular Pakistani dramas, such as Mohabbat Jaye Bhar Mein (2012), Sitamgar (2012), Meri Ladli (2012), Quddusi Sahab Ki Bewah (2013), and Gul-e-Rana (2015). She also received critical acclaim for playing a troubled child in the telefilm, Behadd (2013) and an aspiring actress in her first feature film, Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hay (2016).
Sajal Ali’s success, coupled with her acting skills, caught Bollywood producer, Boney Kapoor’s attention. He signed the Pakistani actress for the Indian film, Mom, alongside the stellar cast consisting of his late wife, Sridevi, Akshaye Khanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Adnan Siddiqui, among others. Sajal Ali made her Bollywood debut in 2017 with Mom. She played the role of ‘Arya Sabarwal’ the daughter of Sridevi’s character, ‘Devki Sabarwal’. The plot revolves around the mother-daughter duo, as ‘Devki’ sets out to seek vengeance for her daughter's sexual assault.
In several interviews, Sajal has repeatedly mentioned the kind of bond she used to share with the Bollywood megastar, Sridevi. As per a report by The Indian Express on July 12, 2017, Sajal had mentioned that Sridevi was the sweetest person. She said:
“She’s just the sweetest person. Even now, she keeps calling me and reminding me that I’m in her thoughts. I’m forever grateful. Everyone’s sending me messages telling me they’re proud of me, it’s just the best feeling, knowing everyone appreciates your work, including critics from across the border.”
Sajal Ali, who played the role of Sridevi’s on-screen daughter in Mom, went into shock after hearing the news of her sudden demise on February 28, 2018. The Pakistani actress shared with the media that the late actress, Sridevi would always call and message her and also find opportunities to meet her as often as possible. She said:
“She was like my mother. I am in a state of shock right now… It feels like losing my mother again.”
Sajal further mentioned that when her mother passed away in 2017, while they were shooting for Mom, Sridevi hugged her tightly and said that she isn’t just her on-screen mother but also in real life. Sajal said:
“I had lost my mother while shooting for Mom and ma’am told me how the same thing happened with her when she was shooting for Lamhe, when her father passed away… She even hugged me tight and said she is not just my mother on screen but in real life too.”

After her Bollywood acting stint, the talented Pakistani actress debuted in Hollywood with Indian director, Shekhar Kapur’s film, What’s Love Got To Do With It? She starred alongside Lily James, Emma Thompson, Shazad Latif, and Shabana Azmi. In an interview with BBC Asian Network, the starlet mentioned that the entire cast of the film had a close-knit friendship and Shabana Azmi is a motherly figure to her. She said:
"I really don't have a professional relationship with them anymore, we are more like friends now. I'm extremely close to Shabana Azmi, she is like a mother to me and a good friend too.”
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Sajal mentioned that she would love to work in Indian films again. She hopes the conflict between the two countries will be resolved as soon as possible. She said:
“I would love to work in India again. But I don’t know when. Let’s see what the future has in store for me. I have been talking about this for years and years. I don’t think politics should come between art and the artist. And I hope yeh deewar jo India aur Pakistan ke beech mein hai khatam ho.”

Along with a very successful professional life, the Pakistani diva, Sajal Ali also came into the limelight for her relationship with Pakistani actor, Ahad Raza Mir. The duo first met on the sets of their drama, Yakeen Ka Safar. Their on-screen chemistry was an instant hit with the audience, and their fans started shipping for their real-life relationship. Sajal and Ahad were referred to as ‘Sahad’ by their loving fans. ‘Sahad’ had dominated Pakistani entertainment since their highest-rated TV series.
The couple always refrained from posting anything regarding their relationship until June 2019, when they announced their engagement to the world via a post on Instagram. In 2020, Sajal’s sister, Saboor Ali, revealed how Ahad had approached Sajal with a formal proposal through his family and talked to their father directly. ‘Sahad’ exchanged vows in a lavish yet intimate wedding in Abu Dhabi on March 14, 2020. Their wedding festivities went on for a week before their nikah. Sajal Ali and Ahad Raza Mir took to their respective Instagram handles to share the good news with their followers. The Pakistani diva looked drop-dead gorgeous in a red lehenga, whereas the handsome hunk looked dapper in an ivory sherwani that complemented his bride’s OOTD.
But destiny had other plans, and the much-loved couple decided to walk away from their marriage in 2021. According to several reports, Sajal Ali and Ahad Raza Mir divorced in 2022. Fans got the confirmation when Ahad was not present in the wedding photographs of Saboor Ali's wedding in January 2022.
