In the docuseries, 'Angry Young Men', Salim Khan, Javed Akhtar, and Salman Khan recall the time when the iconic writer duo, Salim-Javed decided to part ways.
Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan used to be the iconic screenwriter duo, fondly known as Salim-Javed. During their stint together, they wrote screenplays for some of Bollywood's major blockbuster films, including Zanjeer, Sholay, Deewar, Don, and many more. Unfortunately, after more than a decade-long success, Salim and Javed decided to split, and the reason behind it was not known yet.
Amazon Prime's docuseries, Angry Young Men, which encapsulates Salim and Javed's 11-year journey, has now revealed the reason behind their split. While Javed Akhtar blamed the growing distance between them, Salim Khan highlighted that success got into their heads.

In one of the episodes, popular lyricist, screenwriter, and poet, Javed Akhtar recalled the time when their careers as one team started to go downhill. He emphasised that Salim and Javed did not realise the value of goodwill and that it was a mistake that they had made. Sharing how there were no producers lining up at their homes despite giving super-duper hit films, Javed said:
"Salim-Javed did not realize the value of goodwill, it was a mistake we made. We had given two super-duper hit films Don and Trishul, both were golden jubilee films, but there was no line of producers standing outside our doors."
After Javed's confessional, Salim Khan shared his opinion on the same. He mentioned that success has destroyed more people than failures and highlighted that once success gets into someone's head, they start making all the wrong decisions. Salim Khan was quoted as saying:
"Success has destroyed more people than failures. Success can go to your head and you can start making wrong decisions. You get an attitude, so you have to control that and see it doesn’t happen to you."
Further, Salim Khan's eldest son, Salman Khan, also shared his opinion on the Salim-Javed split. He recounted the time when the phone at their home wouldn't stop buzzing, and they had to switch it off. However, then there came a time when the telephone wouldn't ring, leaving everyone wondering if the phone was dead or not.

Meanwhile, Javed Akhtar addressed their split and said that he used to be with Salim Khan for 18 hours a day. Going forward, they started having their own friend circles, and eventually, when the 'spring of their career' dried up, the duo parted ways. Javed Akhtar said:
"We used to be together for 18 hours in a day, but slowly we started having our different circles, but the major reason behind our split was that the spring of our career was drying up. The fatigue was showing in our work too."
Moreover, Salim Khan mentioned that he doesn't like to speak about their split and said, "Our split was very civilized. There was no mud-slinging." Meanwhile, Salman Khan recollected about the time when Salim-Javed had split and revealed how their father broke the news at home. Salman said:
"I remember when the partnership broke up. Dad came home and he was disturbed. I was sitting at the dining table in the hall and he told me that they were breaking the partnership. When we asked why, he said, Javed sahab must have had his reasons, it’s not like he didn’t like my walk or the track pants I wore that he decided to do this."
