Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai's dying love story took a remorseful turn during the shoot of the latter's film, 'Devdas', which even had them both get captured on-screen for the last time.
Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai’s unfinished love story has always grabbed a lot of attention from the tabloids. They were once one of the most-loved jodis ever witnessed in the Hindi film industry, who gradually fell poles apart in love. For movie lovers, the peak of Salman and Aishwarya’s love story is reflected most beautifully in their film, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, which continues to tug a chord in the hearts of their fans. However, when the moment arrived for their painful breakup, things started to turn more remorseful, bitter and ugly. And proof of the same was found when Salman Khan found his way into one of Aishwarya’s most classic film, Devdas.
Eminent journalist, Anupama Chopra, in her written biography of the superstar, Shah Rukh Khan recalled a peculiar incident during the shooting of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali magnum opus, Devdas. She highlighted how Salman Khan, who was there during the shooting of the film, would be present in Aishwarya Rai’s vanity trailer, and would spend night after night lying intoxicated on its floor. This was the time when their relationship was gradually ebbing out, and Aishwarya desperately wanted to break free. On the other hand, Salman Khan was in equal pain, and was trying his best to retain it.

Well, the painful torment of their dying relationship did not end there. For the unversed, Salman Khan was from the first day, very eager to be a part of the film, Devdas. However, when Sanjay Leela Bhansali chose Shah Rukh Khan over him, the former chose to be around the sets, and was often noticed being present by the rest of the crew. However, there was rather an unusual moment during the shooting of this film, which ended up being the last time that Aishwarya and Salman got captured on the screen together.
Well, it happened so that Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai were once rehearsing a scene of their film, where the former had to remove a thorn from the latter’s foot. Interestingly, Salman volunteered to demonstrate a different perspective in which the scene could be performed. SRK agreed and Salman ended up doing the shot. However, what happened beyond everyone’s knowledge was that Sanjay Leela Bhansali kept the camera rolling, and it beautifully captured the moment between the ex-lovers, which also happened to be the last time when they came together on-screen. As per multiple reports, many claim Sanjay retained the clip, and in fact, when seen in the movie, it is actually the one where Salman shot it in place of Shah Rukh.

Aishwarya Rai’s breakup with Salman Khan happened solely due to the alcoholic and abusive nature of the latter. Aishwarya was a subject of frequent physical abuse, which she kept mum about for the longest time. By 2001, there were reports that Salman allegedly banged on the doors of Aishwarya, begging her to let him in. However, things never became the same again, and by 2002, they parted ways. However, much later, Aishwarya, in a revelatory interview with the Times Of India, finally shared that she broke up with Salman, owing to physical abuse. She had mentioned:
“Salman and I broke up last March, but he isn't able to come to terms with it. After we broke up, he would call me and talk rubbish. He also suspected me of having affairs with my co-stars. I was linked up with everyone, from Abhishek Bachchan to Shah Rukh Khan. There were times when Salman got physical with me, luckily without leaving any marks. And I would go to work as if nothing had happened.”
