Sheeba crossed paths with Akashdeep when he directed her in the film, Pyar Ka Rog in 1994. They later met again on the sets of Sheeba’s film, Miss 420, which eventually led to sparks flying between them. They were good friends of one another initially, and their shared Punjabi roots added to build their strong chemistry. As they fell in love with one another, they faced no issues convincing their respective families to their match and tied the knot in 1996. Speaking about their love story, Sheeba reminisced about the first stages of their relationship and mentioned:

“We became good friends, but it was only later when we went to Goa for shooting the film, Miss 420 that the flame of love was ignited. I was attracted by his sense of humour and easy-going nature. I was apprehensive in the beginning. It upset me when people on the sets talked about us. However, I realised that as long as it did not affect my work, it was nobody's business to interfere with my life."

Sheeba and Akashdeep’s traditional marriage after seven months of courtship

After dating one another for seven months, Akashdeep and Sheeba tied the knot in the presence of their family on November 27, 1996. Their wedding ceremony was everything grand and traditional, and they celebrated it in a week-long celebration at a five-star hotel in Mumbai. Post their detailed merriment, the duo flew off to Australia for their honeymoon. Spilling beans about the most memorable moments of their life, Sheeba once recalled:

“My parents did not oppose our relationship, as they believed in me. They trusted that I would never get into a relationship with my eyes closed. The fact that both were Punjabis made things easier. After seven months of courtship, we got married on November 27, 1996. We booked three floors of Hotel Horizon in Mumbai for an entire week. Both our families stayed in the hotel, itself. Besides the wedding we had all the other ceremonies like the sangeet, the haldi and the cocktail party at the hotel. Both the families bonded so well that it was difficult to recognise who belonged to the bride's family and who belonged to the groom's. We went to the Gold coast in Australia as backpackers for our honeymoon."

After tying the knot, the madly in love couple welcomed their baby boys, Hriday and Bhavishya, into their lives after a few years. Unlike any other couple, the duo, from the very beginning, were keen on shouldering their marital and family responsibilities equally, with neither of them having any control over the other following their dreams in their acting career. Incidentally, right after marriage, Sheeba was directed by her hubby, Akashdeep, in the television serial, Karishma-The Miracles Of Destiny. But back home, Akashdeep lets Sheeba be the boss and shares the workload equally. Sheeba once opened up on the same and praised her hubby for not being a typical male chauvinist. In her words:

“Akash isn't a male chauvinist who would expect me to do all household chores or get angry if I came home late from work. We understand the pressures of work as we both belong to the same profession. In the glamour industry, you have to make an extra effort to understand the demands of work and the erratic timings. You have to be mature and tolerant. Akash is quite mature. Not only does he understand the pressures of my job, but he also takes care of the home and children when I am working in a double shift."

Akashdeep mentioned the relationship he shares with Sheeba professionally

While they have been a happy husband and wife back home, but on the sets, Akashdeep and Sheeba have always maintained a strict professional attitude with one another. In an interview, Akashdeep once recalled how he has all sorts of intellectual conversations with Sheeba on the sets and even reprimands her whenever needed. He mentioned:

“Professionally, we have a very intelligent interaction when we discuss about our serial, Karishma. On the sets, she is an actress and I am her director. So, I have all the authority to reprimand her but once home, she is the boss."

Sheeba’s two pence on living in a joint family

For the unversed, for almost five years post-marriage, Sheeba and Akashdeep lived in a nuclear family set up along with their kids. While the decision was voluntarily taken back then, they soon recoiled back in a joint-family setup with Akashdeep’s parents and were amazed by the strong bonds they shared as a result. Elaborating on the same, Sheeba mentioned how being a part of a joint family of her in-laws, she was happier than ever. In her words:

“I wonder why today's generation goes ga-ga over a nuclear family. For five years after marriage, we were a nuclear unit, but the kind of happiness I got in the last two years, staying with my in-laws, has been overwhelming. I can go to work leaving my children behind, assured that they will be well looked after."

Sheeba claims Akashdeep’s polar opposite nature to be the balancing factor in their relationship

Sheeba and Akashdeep’s relationship has been the living epitome of opposites attracting each other. While Sheeba is short-tempered, extrovert and headstrong, it has been Akashdeep’s patience, tolerance and calm nature that has helped her to balance it out in their marriage. Recalling how her husband believes in the beauty of their relationship to be based on their opposite temperaments, Sheeba mentioned:

“One lesson I have learnt from Akash, is to be patient and tolerant. He has the ability to take in his stride any difficult situation by remaining calm and composed. When we fight, we ignore each other for sometime and then one of us patches up by saying, 'sorry'. We do not believe that marriage is about giving and taking; it is about equality, about losing some and gaining some."
