Throwback to one of Salman Khan's epic responses to his ex-flame, Aishwarya Rai's wedding, which proved him different unlike his toxic persona.
Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai’s relationship had been one of the most-discussed topics ever in Bollywood. The duo who appeared to be so-much-in-love ended up living completely different lives, each happy in their own sphere. For the unversed, Salman and Aishwarya broke up due to the former’s extremely abusive behaviour, wherein he ended up having physical brawls with the latter. Fast forward to now, Aishwarya is happily married to Abhishek Bachchan, while Salman Khan is enjoying his bachelorhood at the age of 57.
For the unversed, years later after her ugly breakup, Aishwarya chose to move on in her life and got married to Abhishek Bachchan in 2007. The duo’s majestic Tulu wedding was an extravagant affair back then, and nearly everyone was left in awe of its dreamy grandeur. It was much later, in 2010, when Aishwarya’s ex, Salman Khan gave an epic reaction to the former’s wedding, and the fact that she moved on in her life. In his interview with India TV, Salman had said:
“I am very happy she is married to Abhishek. He is a great guy from a good family. The best thing I can want for her is that she leads a happy life.”

Back in 2002, Aishwarya Rai had given out an explosive, tell-all revelation about the highly spoken-about breakup of her and Salman Khan. The former Miss World shockingly revealed how she’d been at the ugly receiving end of Salman’s abusive behaviour, as a result of which she would often become a victim of brutal physical violence. She mentioned:
“I stood by him enduring his alcoholic misbehaviour in its worst phases and in turn I was at the receiving end of his abuse (verbal, physical and emotional), infidelity and indignity. I would go to work as if nothing had happened. Salman hounded me and caused physical injuries to himself when I refused to take his calls. That is why like any other self-respecting woman, I ended my relationship with him.”
Well, while such unheard revelations about Salman Khan’s alcoholic, abusive behaviour towards his then-girlfriend, Aishwarya Rai shocked everyone, the actor, on the contrary, had a very different take on it altogether. In one of his earlier interviews with NDTV, Salman refused all such claims and allegations made about him and instead indirectly highlighted how Aishwarya wouldn’t have survived at all, if he indeed hit her. In the viral clip, Salman could be quoted as saying:
“Now, the woman has said that I have, what to say. A journalist, who asked me this a long time ago and I just banged the table and he got startled if the table really broke. I said, ‘Now if I hit somebody, it’s obviously going to be a fight. I’m going to be angry. Forget whack, I’m going to give her my best shot. I don’t think she’ll survive it. So no, it’s not true and I don’t know for what reason that was said.”

Interestingly, while the film, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam panned during the highest chord of Salman and Aishwarya past relationship, it was the film, Devdas, which marked the lowest and breaking point of the same. Eminent journalist, Anupama Chopra, in her written biography of Shah Rukh Khan recalled a peculiar incident during the shooting of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali magnum opus, Devdas, concerning the ex-lovers.
She highlighted how Salman was present during the shoot of the film, would be present in Aishwarya Rai’s vanity trailer, and would spend night after night lying intoxicated on the floor. This was the time when their relationship was gradually ebbing out, and Aishwarya desperately wanted to break free. On the other hand, Salman Khan was in equal pain, and was trying his best to retain it.
