Shakuntalam’s producer further added that Samantha really wanted to be a mother and was even ready to reject the film offer for it. Neelima added, "She wanted to be a mother; she told us that was her priority. Period films take time and she was really apprehensive to say yes. But we assured that due to extensive pre-production, we had cut down on a lot of time. She was happy and on-board as soon as she heard this.”

Earlier, when separation rumours were abuzz, Pinkvilla had quoted that the South industry was baffled with Samantha and Chaitanya’s divorce reports as the actress wanted to start a family. The portal had quoted its source as “We as an industry are currently baffled with the speculations going around about Samantha Akkineni and Naga Chaitanya. As an actress, everyone knows she is very family-oriented. She actually wanted to start a family with Chaitanya and she didn't sign any project or read scripts for the same reason. Family has always been her priority and she wanted to balance it to start a family. Her friends, producers, actors, everyone who knows Samantha know how important her family is to her."

On October 8, 2021, Samantha had bared her heart out in an emotional note, hitting the trollers calling her responsible for the divorce. She had written, "Your emotional investment in a personal crisis has overwhelmed me. Thank you all for showing deep empathy, concern and for defending me against false rumours and stories that are being spread. They say I had affairs, never wanted children, that I am an opportunist, and that I have had abortions. A divorce in itself is an extremely painful process. Let alone allowing me the time to heal. This attack on me personally is relentless. But I promise you this I will never allow this or anything else they say. Break me."
