'Animal' director, Sandeep Reddy Vanga urges people to forget about his debut Hindi film, 'Kabir Singh'. He also revealed not many people found the film problematic.
Indian filmmaker, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, rose to immense popularity with his 2017 directorial debut, Arjun Reddy, starring Vijay Deverakonda. The film became so successful that it was also remade in Hindi as Kabir Singh starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani. The 41-year-old director’s most anticipated action thriller film, Animal, hit the theatres on December 1, 2023. The Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna, starrer film is doing quite well at the box office.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who has been off lately, has had his hands full with the promotional events and interviews for his film, Animal. In one such interview, Sandeep shared his thoughts on his controversial yet blockbuster Hindi debut film, Kabir Singh. During a conversation with CNN-News18, he was asked about the non-consensual kissing scene between the lead couple, Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani, which created quite a stir after the film was released. He said:
“I didn’t think much about it. I don’t think that Kabir Singh was a misogynistic film. Only four to five people felt offended and created noise about it. I never took them seriously.”

During the interview, Sandeep was told that more than just four or five people found his previous Hindi film very problematic. In response to it, the director said that initially,, just a handful of people wrote articles about the film, and the rest just followed. He further added:
“Four people wrote articles about it, and that inspired others to write more articles. Not more than 20 people in total, it was their point-of-view. We should not talk about all that, bhool jao Kabir Singh ko.”
The romance-action film, Kabir Singh, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani in the lead roles, was released in 2019 and became a huge box-office success. However, the film received criticism for its portrayal and justification of toxic masculinity and misogyny. Despite the backlash, both the leads, Shahid and Kiara have, time and again, defended the movie. In an interview with Miday, Shahid referred to the film as a "dysfunctional love story between a very simple girl and a very talented, brilliant, aggressive, disturbed guy." Kiara Advani, too, in another of her interview with Bollywood Hungama said:
“My opinion has always been very clear, and for me, deep down, it’s a love story, and the thing about love is that it’s the only thing that will allow you to forgive certain behaviours in life. Relationships are very complex, and it’s very easy for a third person to say, ‘Get out of that relationship’. But for two people in that relationship, it is another complication altogether.”

There was a lot of talk about a kiss between the characters played by Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna in the new Sandeep Reddy Vanga movie, Animal. It appeared as though the director was responding to the Kabir Singh controversy with this scene. In the movie, the two characters kiss each other to protest against their families, who do not approve of their relationship. Animal is expected to generate great revenue at the box office.
